Hey there hillfolk! Join the guys as they talk about one of the worst possible occupations in history, sin eating. Sin eaters originated in ancient Egypt and Rome and was a common thing in the 17th and 18th centuries in Ireland and Wales. A Sin Eater was typically isolated from the rest of the community and shunned because of their craft. They were called upon when someone died, usually unexpectedly, to come in and perform a ritualistic absolving of the deceased sins into a meal prepared for the Sin Eater. Weird, I know. Learn more about these people, and also hear about some good old Appalachian superstitions involving death.Support the show
