You are either filled with the Holy Spirit or you are carnal and under control of the sin nature. One or the other. This is a daily battle. Will you let the sin nature control your life or will you allow the Holy Spirit to control your life? All of us have a sin nature inherited from Adam’s original sin. The sin nature has an area of weakness, and this is the source of temptation. It has an area of strength, and this is where human good originates. Your sin nature doesn’t force you to sin. Your volition is the source of sin. You choose to sin. “I want to do what is right, but I keep on doing what it is wrong. It’s clear that it’s sin in me” (Rom 7:15). When you sin you get out of fellowship with God. No, you don’t lose your salvation. You can’t lose your salvation. Your relationship with God is permanent. To resume fellowship with God, to get the Holy Spirit back in control of your life, use problem-solving device number one, rebound, and name your sin to God (1 John 1:9). By growing spiritually, you will earn to recognize the sin nature’s temptations and its trend toward degeneracy and toward legalism. To overcome the sin nature, you have a Bible and the filling of the Holy Spirit. These are the assets to keep the Holy Spirit in control of your life.
