What does it mean to grow up in America and suddenly realize that you don’t have the same certainty about your future as everyone around you?
In this introductory episode of Sin Papeles, host Beatriz shares a snippet her own immigration story and the experiences that inspired this podcast.
Beatriz came to the United States at three years old and lived undocumented for more than 30 years, including 10 years as a DACA recipient. She opens up about the anger, anxiety, depression, isolation, and self-doubt that came with navigating life without certainty, but also about the resilience, determination, and people who helped her keep moving forward.
From wondering whether her dreams were possible to graduating from UCLA, becoming a U.S. citizen, and finally no longer being Sin Papeles, Beatriz reflects on the journey that brought her here and why she believes these stories deserve to be heard.
Sin Papeles is about more than immigration status or paperwork. It’s about the people behind the labels and headlines: their dreams, fears, families, struggles, and extraordinary capacity to persevere.
This is where the stories behind immigration begin.
