July 05, 2021 Episode 12: S03E12 Ajani from 3 Lance Media

After a short break from recording, we’re back and while there is no football being played we wanted to look at other aspects of the women’s game. I’m really pleased to bring you my conversation with Ajani from 3 Lance Media.

Ajani has recently produced a five-episode series titled 'Throw In The Kitchen Sink' available via YouTube. Each episode focuses on important issues affecting the women’s game – Sexism and Sexuality, Broadcasting Issues, Black Representation, Agency and Professionalism and Equal Pay.

If you’ve not watched them yet then I fully encourage you to do so. I have linked the first episode below and from there you should be able to find the rest from yourself. Although you don’t need to have seen the series period to listening to the episode, it works well as an intro or an Attenborough style ‘Making Of’ to compliment it.

In the most recent episode in our podcast series, I had the pleasure of speaking to former Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Northern Ireland international, Freya Holdaway. This is the longest episode that I have ever recorded and it could’ve continued on for longer as Freya is so eloquent, interesting and knowledgeable.

In this episode, we discuss a host of topics from Freya's youth career in football, including working with a young Emma Hayes at Arsenal, her time with the Northern Ireland international team and her retirement from football after suffering three bad concussions in the space of eighteen months.

For our latest episode of the Since 71 podcast, Daisy had the pleasure of speaking with Aston Villa defender Natalie Haigh. Full disclosure, we had aimed to put this out on YouTube but due to technical difficulties we have no visuals but we did have audio and still wanted to share.

In this episode, Natalie shares some of her favourite memories since she's been playing.

After gaining promotion last season, Villa currently have their WSL fate in their own hands and will be hoping to secure their WSL status this weekend.

In the latest episode of our podcast series, I get to sit down and catch up with Bloomsbury Football‘s Maria Hasler, Emma Thackwray and Marcus Carter. Bloomsbury Football is a registered charity delivering the best football experience to children in central London, as a charity they offer all parents financial assistance to ensure that all children can access quality football coaching.

Their core programmes consist of Bears Football which is an introduction to Football for kids of the age 1.5-6 years old. They are a school sports supplier for year 1 to 6. As well as running mixed ability and development teams for the ages 6 to 14 years old. For those looking to push to a higher level, they run an Academy Professional Football Experience for talented young players. As stated, our main interest is the launch of their most recent programme focusing on female participation in the sport.

The trio are all involved in the girl’s programme and all have a strong background in coaching or within the girls and women’s game.

April 12, 2021 Episode 7: S03E07 - W League Season Review With Impetus Women's Football
In the most recent episode of our podcast series, Stuart Barker catches up with regular contributor, Ben Gilby. Ben is the founder of Impetus Women's football, a website that is becoming really popular with Australian followers due to its fantastic coverage of the W League. We were also joined two of his Australia based contributors, Kris Goman and Kieran Yap.

Kris and Keiran are Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory fans respectively, so both are perfectly placed to talk about the recent W League Grand Final which saw Melbourne secure the trophy thanks to a goal from 19-year-old Kyra Cooney-Cross in injury-time of extra time.

Many of you are probably like me and don't know too much about the W League and in this episode, we also talk about the format of the W League including how short the season is and how the league has been coping with strict state-based lockdowns.

My home town club were going through one of their most successful spells of recent years when the National League Southern Division was paused and eventually curtailed. They sat in third position, unbeaten at home and will have fancied their chances of winning the league title and gaining promotion.

In this episode, Harriet discusses being in the difficult position of signing for Wroxham, her first senior club, just days before the December lockdown meaning she still hasn't met all of her new teammates yet as well as highlighting just how welcoming and progressive the club is. Darrell, a very well known name around the Norfolk women's football scene, talks about his role at the club, how he has been building the club's profile despite lockdown and the club's aims for the short to medium-term future.
