Welcome to the Sing When You’re Losing Podcast! A podcast designed to help you learn to make the most of every situation. Across this series, I interview athletes, coaches, managers, trainers and more so that we can glean from their wisdom and learn from their stories. In this episode I get the privilege of interviewing Peter Scrivener. Peter played Rugby Union for Wasps for 12 years, although he spent nearly half of that injured. He also set up the Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation which has raised over £750,000 for various charitable organisations, and serves as a great source for networking and support for former players. He is also a business owner, serial networker, and a really nice guy. I hope you enjoy hearing his story and how he has made the most of his time, even when things didn’t go his way.
Welcome to the Sing When You’re Losing Podcast! In this episode I get the privilege of interviewing Graham Daniels. Graham has been involved in football for a long time, and on many levels: as a player, a manger, a director of football, and currently in football operations at Cambridge United. In addition to this, Graham is the General Director of an organization called Christians in Sport, where he is active in supporting Christians involved in elite level sport. For many years in the UK, this was a taboo subject, but not anymore. As the world gets stranger, it seems that the need for Faith and willingness to admit it has grown. I hope you enjoy this conversation Graham as much as I did!
As always, this episode is recorded online, so please be patient with the occasional lack of sound quality, if you can persevere, I have no doubt that you will enjoy it and grow from it, so get comfortable and join me, your host, Buddy Owen as we all learn to Sing When You’re Losing.
Malaya is a 2020 graduate of The University of Houston. Malaya graduated from the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship, the number on ranked school for entrepreneurs in America, with a double major. She also competed for the Cougars athletic program throwing shotput and discus, which for this 5' 6" former cheerleader, was not the most obvious event. What stands out most for me when talking to this passionate 20 year old, is her love of others and desire to make other people's lives better. I hope you are as inspired and challenged by her story as I was!
Darren is a product of the Everton Football Academy who signed his first professional contract with Liverpool. Darren is a great pro and incredibly nice guy. Currently, Darren plays for Tranmere Rovers FC. I hope you enjoy listening to Darren as much as I did!

Across this series, I interview athletes, coaches, managers, trainers and more, so that we can glean they’re wisdom and learn from their stories for how to Sing When You’re Losing.
Today, I get the opportunity to speak to my friend, the manager of Tranmere Rovers Football Club, Micky Mellon. Micky is a straight talker with a lot of life and managerial experience and he opens up areas of his life that even I hadn’t heard about until now. You get to learn what he thinks it takes to make it as a professional football player, what he loves most about being a manager, and most of all we hear about his own battle with mental illness after his retirement as a player.

This interview is with one of my favourite people on the planet, Liverpool based Featherweight Boxer, Jazza Dickens. Jazza currently holds the European IBO and WBO belts, and is working his way back into the frame for a World Title Fight. Jazza hails from Liverpool City Centre and has been fighting his whole life. He knows about winning and losing and openly shares the good and the bad. I have no doubt that this episode can teach you loads about how to 'Sing When You're Losing'.
Chris (Kirky), is a former Premier League goalkeeper, most notably with Liverpool. He also has a recent history of mental illness. In this episode, Chris opens up about his struggles and offers encouragement and advice for others going through similar trials. In addition to learning from his experience, you will learn who his favourite managers were to play for, who hit the ball at him the hardest, the best player he's played with, and the best and worst golfers he's played with.
This is a great glimpse into the person and life of Chris Kirkland. I hope you enjoy it!
Dave is a former Kickboxing World Champion, terminal cancer survivor, and one of the most inspiring people I know. In this interview, you'll hear an incredible story of resilience and determination. A nearly fatal motorcycle accident and terminal cancer can't stop Dave from achieving his dreams. Dave's story can teach us all how to 'Sing When You're Losing'.
The explicit label on this episode is due to injury detail.
