In Episode 59 of the Single at 40 Podcast, we tackle one of the most controversial topics we’ve encountered in the Angeles City community.
Over the past year, we’ve seen countless comments claiming that Koreans have “taken over” Walking Street and that they are somehow responsible for changes happening in Angeles City. Instead of accepting the narrative, we decided to look at the facts.
What we found surprised us.
Out of 36 bars on Walking Street, only 13 are Korean-owned. Yet the anti-Korean sentiment continues to show up in comment sections across social media.
In this episode, Glenn and Nick discuss:
• The “Korean takeover” narrative and where it comes from
• The actual ownership breakdown of Walking Street bars
• Why judging entire groups of people based on nationality is dangerous
• Our personal experiences with Korean-owned businesses and Korean tourists
• The difference between criticism of behavior and prejudice against people
• Why a stronger Angeles City community benefits everyone
• Making Walking Street Great Again through unity instead of division
At Single at 40, we believe people should be judged by their actions, character, and how they treat others—not by their passport, race, or nationality.
We know this conversation will spark debate, disagreement, and plenty of strong opinions. That’s okay. The goal is to have an honest discussion based on facts rather than assumptions.
Whether you’re a tourist, expat, local resident, business owner, or first-time visitor, we invite you to join the conversation respectfully.
Make It Count.
