This week on DemiTastes we'll be speaking with Murphy Quint of Cedar Ridge Distillery, Iowa, about their QuintEssential (yes, named for the Quint family) American Single Malt Whiskey line, as well as touching a bit on the rest of their portfolio. We'll find out what makes this distillery unique among other distilleries in the Midwest and what makes Cedar Ridge's American Single Malt Whiskey so special. Today we'll be talking about Boon Boona Coffee and the art and science of coffee, from selection, to roasting and brewing, with Boon Boona Coffee's founder, Efrem Fesaha, and Coffee Director, Ali Güldüren. We'll also lead these gentlemen through a tasting of 3 distinct and readily available American Single Malt Whiskeys.

Long time watchers of DemiTastes will know I'm a huge fan of Boon Boona. This interview will give us a chance to get really geeky about coffee, and maybe even teach these coffee professionals a thing or two about whiskey as we chat.

I first encountered David Thomas Tao on Twitter and followed him for his whiskey content, and found out later that he was the founder of BarBend, a weightlifting sports media platform, with a podcast by the same name featuring weightlifting athletes. I've enjoyed interacting with David on Twitter and Instagram and he graciously agreed to do a live interview ranging through various topics of interest to both of us, mostly centered around Whiskey and Fitness, and maybe a bit of whatever else comes up. This week we welcomed special guest Joseph O'Sullivan, Master Distiller of All Brands for Hood River Distillers, including Clear Creek and McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt Whiskey. We talk about the most recent release from Clear Creek, McCarthy's 6-year Oloroso-finished (released 5/31/23), and get into details on Garryana Oak, finishing casks, wood management, the recent history of Clear Creek distillery, and the distillers involved in creating this latest release. As usual, we couldn't help ourselves from going off on a few tangents and Joe was happily along for the ride. Also find out what Joe would drink if he could only choose one of his own products and one other product to drink for the rest of his life!

As Joe mentioned, the McCarthy's 6-year Oloroso-finished (as well as the PX-finished) can be found on Seelbachs.com and it may also be found on other sites such as Drizly and ReserveBar. Of course, you can also visit the Hood River Distillers tasting room in Hood River, OR to purchase bottles of all of their available releases including the standard 6-year, PX-finished, Oloroso-finished, and a selection of current Cask Strength and 3-year standard offerings, not to mention all of the other whiskeys, brandies, and more currently available from Clear Creek and Hood River Distillers.
