There are many popular TV series these days (certainly among the younger crowd) which can be labeled “coming of age,” with focus on character, family and the challenges of growing older. These series have strong appeal for viewers young and older. But things have evolved a bit in society and now, a new series (that is, new to the United States, as it’s played for a while in Australia) takes the leap, not of having its lead character struggle with who he is, but rather knowing who he is from the very first episode. In this way, “Single, Out” starts in a different and arguably more progressive place from other popular series (think “Heartstoppers” and “Young Royals”).
Here, lead character Adam (played by breakout actor Will Hutchins) guides the series as its heart and soul. The production was created, written and directed by Lee Galea, and both of these gents join in the conversation from their homes in Melbourne, Australia to talk about the development of the series, the characters and what’s next in future seasons. The series is heartwarming, very funny and carries a hopeful message for young viewers to be proud of who they are and reach for their dreams with passion and dedication not fear.
Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available in the U.S. on Here-TV (available as an app through your provider or on its own); Season 3 is on its way next year and Season 4 will soon begin production in Australia, which Galea shares will be the final season. Why? Watch the interview to find out.
