As someone who cherishes the power of community, I've always been proud to be an active member of Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc., the first-ever South Asian Interest Sorority in the nation. Recently, during a bachelorette brunch with my younger sorority sisters, I found myself surrounded by 15 women, all in various stages of relationships. Curiosity got the better of me, and I couldn't resist delving into their personal lives to learn more about how they met their partners and their views on the challenges of modern dating. To my surprise, all four women on the engagement/bachelorette/wedding cycle had found their partners on dating apps, sparking a revelation about the real issue with dating apps and why they might not work for some.
The Misconception about Dating Apps:
Many people, including some of my clients who seek matchmaker services, tend to blame dating apps for their dating woes. While it's true that the swipe culture has altered the dating landscape, it's essential to recognize that dating apps are merely tools to connect with potential partners. They are not responsible for the outcome of the interactions or the success of a relationship. It's like the Yellow Pages - if you're not listed, you won't be found, but you can't control who calls you.
The Real Issue Lies Within:
If dating apps are not the root of the problem, then what is? The answer is ourselves. To make dating apps work, we must first do the inner work and understand what we truly want in a partner and a relationship. Identifying the qualities we seek in a partner to achieve our relationship goals is crucial. Equally important is recognizing what we bring to the table and understanding how our expectations align with what we offer. Without this self-awareness, dating apps can feel like a frustrating and fruitless experience.
Taking Charge of Your Dating Journey:
Dating apps are tools, but the real transformation happens within us. How we interact, engage, and react to the outcomes of those apps is entirely in our control. It's not an easy journey, and that's why at Single to Shaadi, we provide a range of coaching services to support you. Whether you need to talk through anxieties, address questions, or conquer fears, our coaching sessions are designed to help you navigate the complexities of modern dating. Finding love on dating apps is possible, but it requires more than just swiping right. By understanding ourselves, our desires, and our contribution to a relationship, we can make dating apps work in our favor. Remember, the power lies within you, and with the right mindset and support, your journey from single to shaadi (marriage) can be fulfilling and rewarding.
