Dr. Jalan Burton (Dr. J) is a pediatrician based out of the DMV area. Dr. J has over a decade of experience in well and sick child care, complex care, children with special needs, public health, youth development and health care consulting. She also own her own medical consultancy business where she provides direct patient care by way of home visits.  Healthy Home Pediatrics was birthed, so she could spend extra time with her patients to better address health and wellness needs and change unfavorable medical trajectories. Racism has been present in this country for over 400 years, and the recent murder of George Floyd has ignited feelings of anger, despair, helplessness and fear. Today, I am sharing parts of my story of being a Black woman in America.

Becoming a grandmother at the age of 37 is tough. My mother was vulnerable and shared how she uncovered I had been sexually active and discovering I was pregnant. This is a conversation that took place via social media, hence the commentary that I shared throughout.  I hope this inspires you to be transparent about your journey.
