The 80s month continues for Horror History with the Larry Cohen 1985 cult classic "The Stuff." The Mistress of the Menagerie discusses 80's consumerism and good 'ol American greed, the Horror Comedy subgenre, and allegories for addiction and substance use disorder.

This week for horror history, continuing to focus on the 80s, is the underrated 80s gem "Cat People (1982)."  The Mistress of the Menagerie discusses the expanded (incestuous) mythos of the cat people, female repressed sexuality, and transformation allegories. Horror History: Continuing to focus on the 70s, this week's episode discusses David Cronenberg's body horror classic, 1979's, "The Brood." The Mistress of the Menagerie talks about Gestalt Therapy techniques, how divorce affects those around us (especially children), and what the brood children themselves represent (representing more than just rage manifestations).

This week, still focusing on the the 1960’s, the Mistress of the Menagerie discusses the amazing Edgar Allen Poe adaptation by the legendary Roger Corman, “The Masque of Red Death (1964).” Topics include Socioeconomic Status, Religious debate (Satan or God), and 2 of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse: Pestilence and Death.

July is here and this month the Mistress of the Menagerie will be focusing on horror movies of the 60s, starting with the low budget, cult classic 1962's "Carnival of Souls." Topics include Toxic Masculinity, afterlife/death allegories, and mental illness metaphors and symbolism.
