Nobody ever told me it was ok to disappoint people. But instead to silence myself so no one was uncomfortable, while feeling like I always had to be "on". And that's especially hard if you're a black mother, struggling to balance showing up for everyone and everything, but not prioritizing yourself.
So when I sat down with Shirria McCullough, a therapist for ambitious millennial moms focused on their self care without mom guilt, she said something so on point. "Moms deserve to be happy and kids deserve happy moms."
