 We talk with Matt and Eleese of Brand New Heartache about their move from the Bay Area to Nashville, the camaraderie they’ve found in Nashville, their album “A New Alchemy,” and their tough crowd—their kids!    

Love is a long game and harmony, musical or otherwise, is not something you stumble into. Brand New Heartache, the husband/wife duo consisting of Matthew and Eleese Meschery, take their cues from the rich traditions of authentic Americana while channeling anthemic, indie-popvibrations and dreamy harmonies.    

After having formed the band in Oakland, CA, the pair made a consequential move in 2022 to Madison, TN-just outside of Nashville. With a rotating cast of session players that’s included members of Chuck Prophet’s band, Counting Crows, and Aimee Mann, they sharpened a captivating sound and built momentum in East Nashville as they geared up for their release on Mule Kick Records available everywhere!   

With an additional focus on the visual aspect of their project, BNH leans into retro glitter, high fashion glam and a curated vintage aesthetic. The experience of their live show is an observable delight as well as a consistent effusion of musical gems.

 We had a great visit with Greg Amici about his return to music after a 16-year hiatus cause by a vocal polyp. We talk about his latest release “Tragiccomic,” his work with Jim Mastro, and how he got back to his true love – making music.   

Gregory Roncalli Amici, born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, grew up in East Brunswick and surrounding towns. While his roots are firmly planted in Jersey, his creative journey has taken him from the heart of Manhattan to Los Angeles and back again. With humor, he calls himself a"count in name only," tracing his aristocratic lineage through Italian family names such as Benedetti, Stalute, and Scala. Greg found his calling as a musician in high school, inspired by local bands. Picking up the guitar in his late teens, he founded his first band, The Clergy, and later teamed up with a musical partner to form the '80s alt-rock band Junk. Their cover of "The Shape of Things to Come" was featured on the compilation The East Coast 60’s Rock n’Roll Experiment, produced by longtime friend Matt Pinfield.   

In the late '90s, Greg formed Big Honey, a New York-based band with a loyal following. Their rise peaked at the CMJ Music Festival but paused indefinitely when a vocal polyp sidelined Greg for years. Despite this setback, his talent was widely acknowledged, earning praise for his distinctivevoice and songwriting abilities from peers within the music community.

 We talked with Ruby about her collaborative album “Take Me Back” with fellow Austin artists and the documentary that goes along with it,“Making a Life Out of Art.” The album is available everywhere now and the documentary to follow. Ruby wanted to highlight the wonderful community of Austin through hers and other’s eyes.    

Austin-based Americana artist and Best Bassist in Austin Ruby Dice released her new album, Take Me Back, on August 28, 2026. Blending Colorado grit with Texas soul and rooted in Americana, country, blues, and rock, Take Me Back features collaborations with acclaimed artists including Shinyribs, Suzanna Choffel, Nakia, Jordan Matthew Young, Grey Horse, Scott Strickland, SeanMcHargue, Garrett Jay Brown, and Sophia Johnson.
