In this first episode of “recaps and reflections,” Chandra and Sarah discuss Black History Month. Join us for this episode as we discuss our personal experiences related to black history, Chandra’s interest in engineering and inventing as it relates to black individuals, and a history lesson about butter pecan ice cream. 

• During slavery and Jim Crow times, Blacks were only allowed to eat vanilla ice cream on 4th of July because vanilla ice cream was seen as pure and for white people only. It wasn’t a law but known as the status quo during Jim Crow era.
• Black people were allowed to eat chocolate ice cream even though the person who perfected vanilla ice cream was a slave. 
• Another Black man - Mr. Jackson- developed the process for ice cream we use today - mixing salt, removing eggs, and adding new flavors and cream.
• Around the mid-1800’s a Black man – Antwain- cultivated pecans. Unable to access vanilla ice cream often, Black people added pecans when they were able to get vanilla ice cream, thus creating butter pecan ice cream.

Chandra Jarrett was sexually abused by a pastor while being counseled about divorce. She felt helpless and violated. Unable to use her voice, she wrote letters to the pastor asking him not to touch her only to be sent to the prayer room. In this episode, Chandra shares how this experience affected her life and how she went from Victim to Victor. It was painful to revisit the pain of her past and forgive this man but as you will hear forgiveness set her free to live a new like and rewrite her story. Chandra now uses the pain of her past to help others by collapsing the time of their healing to live victoriously. She warns people to beware of pastors or leaders who prey on others. Trust the Holy Spirit, know God's word and don't allow people to define God.

What do you do when the place of healing becomes a place of pain? What happens when pastors are perpetrators preying on people in church? How does one cling to the Creator when church hurts?

Chandra Jarrett has experienced her share of church hurt from being sexually abused by a pastor to being called a Jezebel and put out of the church by another pastor. Although she's left the church multiple times, she's always clung to Jesus in the midst of the pain. 

Church people can be messy and dirty but don't allow them to define God. Chandra encourages anyone who has experienced church hurt to know God for yourself. She says "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water." Give God another chance.
