In this episode of the Becoming You podcast, I share six mindset perspective changes that have rocked my world and I believe will rock your world.
Mindset Shift #1: Forgiving Others Liberates You, Not Them.
Most of us carry around so much baggage. A lot of us carry chips on our shoulder of how others have wronged us, whether they be family members, friends, colleagues, or old classmates from high school or college.
We feel angry and resentful of anyone who has never forgiven or even just acknowledged our pain. We wait for the day when that person or group of people will own up to their mistakes and apologize. While it’s true that we will feel seen and heard when that happens, the simple fact is: We can’t wait for that to happen. In fact, there’s no guarantee that day will ever come.
By holding a grudge, you give away your power and somebody else has control over how you feel. You never want to be in that situation, because only we can control our own emotions, attitude, and perspective.
Forgiving somebody is not the same as telling them that what they did to you is okay. When you forgive someone, you tell them that what they did was not okay, but that you will no longer let that experience define your life. In short, forgiveness is letting go.
In fact, you don’t even have to forgive. Just accept that this thing happened, and feel the liberation of being able to rewrite your story after leaving behind your spite.
Remember: Forgiveness is not about submitting to others, but about liberating yourself.
Mindset Shift #2: Every Single Thing in Your Reality is a Reflection of Your Beliefs, Your Limitations, and How You See the World
We all think that the world we see is how it really is. We completely buy into our reality. But in truth, that “reality” we see is just a mirror reflection of both our inner world and what we project out into the external world.
In short, the world is not what you see, but what you perceive. Change your perspective, change what you see.
Mindset Shift #3: Who You Are Being, in Any Given Moment, Determines Your Results More Than What You Are Doing
Most of us think that our success or failure comes from the actions that we do. We focus so much on process when we should instead put our focus on being.
Doing is important, but it should stem from being, and not the other way around. After all, if you are relying on the intuition of your fully authentic, grounded, and powerful self, how differently would you act?
Mindset Shift #4: There Are No Mistakes In Life.
Do you remember having to choose which college to go to, believing that would be the most critical, life-altering choice you were going to make in your life at that point?
And while that’s true, didn’t life turn out okay regardless of the choice you eventually made? Well, the rest of life is exactly like this.
The only thing that matters is the choice that feels right to you in that present moment.
Mindset Shift #5: Life is Always Happening For You.
This is the hardest muscle for most people to develop.
Life doesn’t happen to you, but for you. I like to say that life flows through you. Life is not out to “get” you or “trip you up”.
Mindset Shift #6: Your Emotional Pain is Stored in Your Physical Body.
It’s not enough to analyze, rationalize, and process. You also need to release emotional pain from your body.
If you want to embody a more powerful version of you, you need to release the stuck emotions from your body that are stopping you from feeling like you can be powerful and safe.
