A 6-1 beating at Orlando City and home draw with Atlanta FC leaves New England on the cusp of being mathematically eliminated from the MLS playoff race. But the elusive sixth spot in the east has been difficult to lock in for the two teams the Revs are theoretically still chasing -- New York Red Bull and the Montreal Impact.
New York has just one win in its last 11 matches and Montreal has lost seven of its last eight. But a potential rule infraction from FC Dallas could result in the team forfeiting its Saturday draw with Orlando City. That would mean two more big points for Orlando City and give them sole position of seventh place, with games against Columbus and Philadelphia to play -- not good new for Revs playoff dreamers.
This week Ray, Jon, Matt and Alex discuss the video review screwing the Revs took in Orlando and break down the high press against Atlanta that led to several scoring opportunities that just couldn't find the back of the net.
And finally, it's once more into the breach for the Huot 8000.

Jay Heaps' six year run as head coach of the New England Revolution has reportedly come to an end.
The sacking of Heaps comes with just five remaining matches on the 2017 schedule for New England and follows a crushing week in which the Revs were out-scored a combined 10-1 at Atlanta and Kansas City.
A call and text message from Six States One Podcast to New England's communications staff was not immediately returned and the team made no formal announcement regarding the head coach as of late Monday evening. SSOP verified the reports of Heaps' ouster from a source close to the club.
This week, Ray, Matt and Jon are joined by former Midnight Ride host Hank Alexandre, who fills in for Alex. The boys do their best to muddle through the Revs' 7-0 loss at Atlanta and 3-1 downing at Sporting Kansas City, where New England was done in by a lack of self control that left them with a stack of red and yellow cards and down men in both matches.
With only five matches to go and a new or interim coach on the horizon, the Revs would need to win out and and get some help from Vancouver and Columbus to have even the most remote of possibilities to squeak into the playoffs. We'll fire up the Huot 8000 and play out the unlikely red line scenarios.
The road to respectability runs through Foxborough this week with Eastern Conference leading Toronto FC coming to town. We preview the match with Tej Sahota from Waking the Red blog.

Another grind out win for the Revs against Montreal, now, with seven matches to go, the question remains: Can they do it on the road?
This week, Ray, Matt and Jon welcome in friend of the pod Anna Franzosa to fill in for Alex, who is on assignment. They break down the Revs’ fifth straight home win, then set their eyes on Atlanta and Kansas -- where New England’s playoffs hopes will live and die this week.
We’ll talk with Jason Longshore, from Atlanta’s 92.9 The Game and host of The Soccer Down Here Podcast, then check in with Andy Edwards from Kansas City’s Talkin’ Touches Podcast to figure out what the Revs need to do to win in Hotlanta and get at least a result at KC.

There's no place like home.
The Revs returned from the road to the comfortable confines of Fortress Foxborough and took on the weary Lions from Orlando City. Kei Kamara notched his first MLS hat trick with goals number 100, 101 and 102; Lee Nguyen was central to it all with four key assists; Cody Cropper racked his eighth clean sheet of 2017 and even new attacker Krisztan Nemeth got into the act with an assist to Teal Bunbury who found the back of the net for the the sixth time in eight matches.
New England is now four points below the red line with eight games to go. We preview Montreal coming to town and fire up the Huot 8000 for a reality check on the Revs' playoff possibilities.

Where was the heart? After Saturday’s dead drop in DC, the New England Revolution are well past gut-check time. With nine games to go, and Orlando on the horizon, the Revs are out of excuses and out of chances to not get maximum points every match.
This week, Ray, Matt, Jon and Eric Spence (filling in for Alex) break down the Revs disappointing trip to Washington. Will anyone step up and put this team on their back? Is there still time to make another late-season run to get above the red line? We break it all down and welcome in Michael Citro from TheManeLand.com as we preview Orlando City’s upcoming visit to Foxborough.
