This week we're up one Ciaran but down one Alan, but we soldier onwards in our odyssey through the wild world of Theros: Beyond Death previews with hot takes on an overhyped card, a True-Name Nemesis functional errata, and some titanic powerhouses!

This week, we're discussing a bunch of Theros: Beyond Death previews, and after the outro we give our Top 3 Best and Worst cards from 2019!

David's back in Ireland and we're all back in the same room and ready to talk about some Magic! We kick things off with some gifts for the lads (and the listeners!) all the way from Japan. We discuss the recent changes to competitive play on both MTGO and Arena, and what that means for those looking to compete seriously. This week Al's out, and Dave Murphy AKA DaveSea89 is in! Dave joins us to discuss Standard, in which Dave recently won a PTQ, Pioneer, in which we accurately predicted the bans, and Secret Lair! Plus a whole lot of smack talk.

This week we're going over the major archetypes that are emerging in Standard in the wake of the round of bannings. Pioneer is in a relatively stable place with no bans, but could Field of the Dead and Mono Black decks be a problem in the format? There are no bans this week but we expect that to change after this coming week of daily PTQs. Finally we dive into the controversy surrounding the Magic storyline in recent weeks, with the apparent erasure of queer characters and WotC's response.

In this bumper episode, we dive deep on the implications of the Standard bans, and the Play Design philosophies behind them, and their interaction with the London Mulligan. We discuss the recently-announced updates to Magic Arena and specifically Historic in the form of new cards. And finally Alan has a tournament report form Ireland's de facto most prestigious tournament, the Festival of Champions!

Undaunted, David and Ciaran dive even deeper into the Pioneer decklists with in-depth analysis of the top 8 from the Pioneer PTQ held this weekend. The decklists had not been released at that time so we did our best to put it together from Twitter posts. We also briefly discuss the announcement and structure of fractional invites for the PT.

This week we've got a bumper episode with discussion about further potential bans in Standard, a report from the MCQ weekend on Arena, and going over the top 8 lists from the very first Pioneer challenge this past weekend, as well as notable lists from the top 32.
