Scientists at Penn State have published a study suggesting ways they might check to see whether star KIC 8462852 is home to a superadvanced alien civilization that has built massive solar collectors around its sun to generate power.  The thing is, since we don't have a baseline for the output of KIC 8462852, these are just educated guesses.  Of course, that's not what the headlines say.
