SlapperCast Episode 396: "Neigh Means No"

In this episode, you get to meet fiddler Emilio Arredondo, an old friend of ours who jumped in pretty much at the last minute to cover for keyboardist/guitarist Dave Hitchcock, who was originally going to play with us in ScotFest this past weekend. When we learned that Dave was scheduled for brain surgery (literally less than two weeks ago), Patrick called Emilio, who jumped at the opportunity.

We had one rehearsal (which wasn't even a full band rehearsal), and then we were off. Suffice it to say, Emilio knocked it out of the park, and we will be playing with him again this coming weekend in Lewisville and Richmond! We hope to see you all there.

This week’s episode opens with a candid conversation about Patrick's rehearsals with an Eric Clapton tribute band... which is especially interesting because Patrick despises Eric Clapton.

Then we recap a fantastic night at Molly’s in Kingwood for Halfway to Paddy's Day, with Jeff Duncan on fiddle and a very special guest in the audience: Turbo and his wife Stacie!

We talk about the nerves and excitement of playing in front of our drummer, share some Kingwood footage—including Patrick’s merciless roasting of our friend Mike Carr—and explain how Chad utilizes "stem splitting" to clean up live recordings and vancasts.

Plus: mistaken soundguy identities, ScotFest and Ireland excitement, and love and well wishes for our friend Dave Hitchcock as he recovers from brain surgery.

SlapperCast Episode 394: "Don't Get Mad, Get Evil"

This episode was recorded in two bits: first on the road to Beaumont for our Halfway to Paddy's Day show at the Logon Cafe, and then later on the way back to Houston after the gig.

It was a GREAT night with a wonderful crowd, and we were all thrilled to be back at it after taking some time off while Patrick was back home in Ireland.

This is mostly the same kind of stuff we talk about while driving to-and-from a show when the cameras are off... but in this case, our energy levels were so high that we knew we had to capture it all.

This one was recorded a couple days before Patrick left for Ireland to be with his family following the passing of his mother Ann.

We start off talking about famous siblings in rock bands, and which pairings are truly unmatched an inseparable with regards to the band's music... are there any better examples than Eddie and Alex Van Halen, or Vincent and Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott?

Patrick's mother had only just passed away that morning, and clearly needed some brotherly banter. The conversation gets more personal towards the end, thanks to Jimbo asking a very simple but pertinent question.

Turbo joins us with an update on his knee-replacement recovery and reveals that he’s been writing not one, but TWO autobiographical books, the first one entitled "Just Look Up" and the second tentatively titled "The Lock". Chad's nerdbrain refers to it as Turbo's superhero origin story, and once you read the stories, you'll understand why.

Chad then talks about his debut solo album project, Magic Notebook, which he's currently releasing demos of on his Patreon one song at a time (https://www.patreon.com/chadsmalley).

We also talk about our recent gig at Blue Lagoon in Houston... a great neighborhood bar in Spring Branch that we were VERY impressed with.
