In this special bonus episode of SlasherCast, Mike sits down for a one-on-one interview with Adam Green to discuss season 2 of Holliston, Hatchet 3, and the future of horror.
In this episode, Dave is joined by Jack and Mike to discuss Shane Black's Iron Man 3. Our guest K.C. Chamberlain (@KC_Chamberlain) joins the Side Effect during Rush Hour traffic, bringing his perspective to the latest installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). We have a detailed discussion on the Mandarin, Shane Black's filmmaking style, and the future of the MCU. As a bonus, Jack reads New Jersey Nick's review of the film in Nick's voice.
This week the guys sink their teeth into not one, but two vampire movies (Yes, we hate ourselves for those puns). But first, Mike's News, before we dive into the modern art house blood sucker, Kiss of the Damned, directed by Xan Cassavetes. Then, the guys cleanse their palates with the classic Tony Scott Sapphic seducer, The Hunger. Will its '80s soaked atmosphere stand the test of time? Will it compare favorably against the modern lore? It's an old school/new school battle of the borrowed '70s style vampire story in tonight's SlasherCast.
Note: We are down one finger, as our own Nick welcomes his spawn into the world. Congrats to Nick and his wife on the birth of future horror fan, James.
Cronenberg and Son do their best to confound and disturb the five fingers as their unique body horror submissions push the limits and some of the fingers' patience. First up, we get Mike's news, as usual, before jumping right into Brandon Cronenberg's first feature film, Antiviral, a seething look at the celebrity obsessed culture of today, and where it may go tomorrow. Then, we jump back in time to see what the guys think of an early film from David Cronenberg, Rabid. Will it hold up to modern viewing, or will its frothy mouthed, pseudo zombies come up short in a world of rage virus & quarantine movies? More importantly, what is an armpit dick? All these questions and more get answered on this Father and Son episode of SlasherCast.
On Episode 12 Dave, New Jersey Nick, and D.A. Chaney return to discuss the crime thriller, Sushi Girl, from Magnet Releasing. The discussion goes into Mark Hamill's career, Tony Todd's "magical" role in the film, and Dave has a unique observation from one of the flashbacks in this film.
It's the episode Nick's been waiting for! A Rob Zombie movie and the chance to hear Mike say "werewolf" over and over.
First, your favorite five fingers tackle Zombie's latest mind scrambler, The Lords of Salem and contemplate non-titilating nudity, glorious blasphemy and the relative wisdom of casting your spouse when she's mostly hated. Then, the guys jump right into Bear Jew supreme Eli Roth's new Netflix series, Hemlock Grove, episodes 1 & 2 (more or less). Find out if it's worth your time or if it has no bite ( yes, we hate us for that pun too). And of course, you get your weekly fix of Mike's News and the usual ball busting. It's all waiting in this epic episode!
On this Side Effect Dave, New Jersey Nick, and returning guest D.A. Chaney go into the post-apocalyptic world of Oblivion. We discuss everything about this sophomore effort from director Joseph Kosinksi starring Tom Cruise including Dave going full tilt nerd and making comparisons to Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
This week the five middle fingers review one of the more entertaining horror-comedies of late, the killer clown slasher Stitches. They then revisit the found footage subgenre (again) and put The Frankenstein Theory to the test. But first you'll get a recap of Ted and Dave's whirlwind weekend at the 2013 Monsterpalooza convention, as well as some brief news from Mike. Enjoy!
The five middle fingers take a trip to the woods and find some interesting reading material in this week's episode. Yup, It's Deadite time as your fearless five tackle the remake/reboot/reimagining/sequel to seminal horror classic The Evil Dead (1981). Can Evil Dead (2013) live up to the high expectations of horror's high counsel? But before the fun starts, you get treated to I Am Jack's News and, after grades, a less than relevant Top Ten list. This is one for the record books.
SlasherCast is honored to host a very special guest - writer, director, and special effects master Kenneth J. Hall. Taking time out from promoting the much-anticipated DVD release of his cult classic B-horror spoof Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout, Ken was good enough to let us pick his brain about the film, his decades-long career, his feelings on the state of horror today, and much more. If you're a true blue horror fan, you'll get a hell of a lot out of this one. Thanks again to Ken, and we hope you all enjoy.
