Slashers Podcast

Join Mikey, Doug and Ade as they dive into the first episode of Women's March about the talented Ali Larter and her contribution to the horror community! You may have first seen Ali Larter in her titular whipped-cream bikini in Varsity Blues, but we realized that she's actually in a lot of horror and thrillers as well. We talk about her Final Destination films, Resident Evil Films, her remake of House on Haunted Hill, and we even throw in a quick discussion for some of our other favorites, that include Obsession with Idris Elba and Beyonce, as well as Legally Blonde.

We also give a quick recap of some of the newer horror media we're all consuming. Doug fills us in on all his new Vinegar Syndrome buys, as well as Mikey giving his two cents for Dave Grohl's Studio 666, and a graphic novel he just bought called Something's Killing the Children (which definitely sounds fun). Oh, and Ade gets into A Discovery of Witches.

We're all really excited for our Women's March this month; especially since women play such an integral part in horror. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please email us and let us know your thoughts!

Happy Monday Goons!  The last Monday of our (Fe)bruary Killer Robot month finishes out with a Patreon request: Chopping Mall (1986)! The film was directed by Jim Wynorski and was produced by Roger Corman's wife, Julie Corman.  The stars of the show are some of your 80's favorites: we have Night of the Comet's Kelli Maroney, Re-Animator's Barbara Crampton and a cameos from Mary Woronov and everybody's favorite extra, Dick Miller, in addition to Karrie Emerson, Russell Todd, Suzee Slater and John Terlesky.  This is definitely a snapshot of America in the 1980's, especially within the shopping mall setting that is all but obsolete these days.

Jake also crashes the party as he asks us what is our favorite non-anthropomorphic robot.  So join us for a fun, albeit, inappropriate episode and let us know what you think!

Hey goons! Let's talk independent horror this week on Slashers Podcast, where Ade and Mikey use their "Call Your Ghoulfriends" card to discuss 1999's Kolobos! This one is available on Tubi so we both highly recommend the watch. I know that as an Indie horror, it probably has some cringey, eye rolling moments, but it's also worth every second! Join your ghoulfriends and listen in!

Happy Valentine's Day, all our Mutant Goons!  Welcome to another episode of our (Fe)bruary killer robot month where your hosts cover 1977's Demon Seed based upon the Dean Koontz novel of the same name.

The film is directed by Donald Cammell and stars Julie Christie, Fritz Weaver and Gerritt Graham, while Robert Vaughn voices the titular and evil Proteus. Don't let the decade for this film fool you, it will get under your skin and drag you along on a demented and cabin-fever-riddled ride, as it is about a rogue computer that infiltrates a smart house and forcefully impregnates the woman living there. Whoah--that was a fucking mouthful. Talk about romance on the most romantic day of the year! But hey, a lot of us use tiny machines for certain things, so there ya go.

We had a lot of fun recording this one and hope you enjoy it. Be sure to let us know your thoughts and if you have any other suggestions for the rest of February, let us know!

Welcome to week 2 of our (Fe)Bruary Killer Robot horror month!  This week, join Jake and Ade as they discuss the killer doll slash droid reimagining of Child's Play -- that's right, Child's Play 2019!

While this was sacrilege, according to Ade, when it came out, we find that this actually a good, if not great, reimagining of Don Mancini's source material, and it does well with the gore and special effects. Directed by dreamy Lars Klevberg on a budge of $10 million, it grossed a whopping $45 million, and stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Tim Matheson, Gabriel Batemen and Chucky himself is voiced by the iconic Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill.

In this adaptation, Chucky is not possessed, and no, unfortunately we don't get a fun cameo from Brad Dourif, but what we do have is a droid that is programmed to be murderous. We get a lot of fun gore, a lot of what the fuck moments, and a nice little scene featuring our favorite Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2. Hope you all have as much fun listening as we did recording!

Hey goons! We're trying something a little different this month wherein we are releasing a clip of our JanuScary Patreon Bonus episode to the public. Doug and Coker return with another Slashers Smoke Break episode, by popular demand!

To get an early start on [Fe]Bruary, they are doing Death Machine. What is [Fe]Bruary? It's a celebration of killer robots (and Fe is iron on the periodic table of elements).

Written and directed by Stephen Norrington, the film stars icons, Brad Dourif and Richard Brake. Norrington, previously worked as a special effects artist on films such as Lifeforce, Aliens, Hardware, The Witches, and Split Second. He also allegedly punched Sean Connery.

The guys also talk about Mark Rosman's 1995 film, Evolver. . . then of course Doug brings up Short Circuit 2 (RIGHTFULLY, BECAUSE IT IS THE STUFF OF LEGEND).

In memory of Fred Adelman.

Welcome to our final JanuSCARY episode where Ade, Doug and Coker discuss their 2022 anticipated horror favorites that they can't wait to see. Some of your favorites are on this list, as we dive into Scream 5, Terrifier 2, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and many others that make this list. Big shoutout to all our listeners for giving their two-cents, like Mikey, Cam, Vlad, Kevin, Mike Kirk, AJ, Shameek and Matt W. for lending me their thoughts and ideas of what they're excited for!

We also get into some underrated favorites which include The Untold Story as well as other category 3 films, The Collection, The Rage: Carrie 2, and take a guess at which Jason Voorhees / Friday 13th tickles Coker's fancy lol. This was a fun episode and a great way to kick off what will most likely be a pandemic stained year haha. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday to the amazing, iconic powerhouse that was Betty White.  This whole episode is dedicated to her; and is also the first of many Slashers Podcast subsidiaries, Call Your Ghoulfriends, featuring Ade and her boo boo, Mikey.  This episode also dives into more JanuSCARY topics such as horror novels, specifically Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell, a few comments about your favorite horror author, Stephen King, why Mikey and Ade are obsessed with Kevin Bacon, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Bill Pullman; but the majority of the time we actually discuss the untouched beauty of 1999's Lake Placid.

Lake Placid is a classic creature feature, and let's face it, Betty White makes it 1000x more loveable. It's also written by David E. Kelley and directed by Steve Miner (also starring Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Brendan Gleeson, Meredith Salenger and Oliver Platt).

Don't forget to donate to your local animal shelter this month in Betty White's name. The woman left a legacy and I will continue to live out my days to make her proud. We love you, Betty!!!!

Slashers Smoke Break presents several topics this week on our JanuSCARY episode!  Doug and Coker go through movies that scared them shitless as children, video games that wrecked their lives, and arcade robots that still haunt Coker to this day.

The guys also go through their top 2021 horror films this year with a few comments on Malignant, Halloween Kills, and Squid Game!  Finally, they touch on some awesome finds (extreme horror and Gwar films) they came across this year, as well. Be sure to grab an edible, kick back, and give it a listen.

Are there any topics that you'd like your favorite Slashers to divulge in? Be sure to let us know!!!
