First, God made a special promise amidst the ruins of a broken paradise---a promise that a descendant from Eve would one day defeat evil (Genesis 3:15; see Advent 2022 sermon No. 1). Then, after several failed "do-overs," God started all over once more by choosing to create a special community of believers from one man named Abram, whose ultimate descendant was Christ incarnate (Genesis 22:17-18; see Advent 2022 sermon No. 2). Now, as this community staggers under the awful leadership of some very imperfect people, God promises a King who will one day make everything right--and include people from the farthest corners of the earth in His family.
