The thrilling 24th instalment in Peter Robinson's number one best-selling Banks Series.
A shocking mass murder occurs at a wedding in a small Dales church, and a huge manhunt follows. Eventually the shooter is run to ground, and things take their inevitable course. But Banks is plagued with doubts as to exactly what happened outside the church that day and why.
Struggling with the death of his first serious girlfriend and the return of profiler Jenny Fuller into his life, Banks feels the need to dig deeper into the murders, and as he does so, he uncovers forensic and psychological puzzles that lead him to the past secrets that might just provide the answers he is looking for. When the surprising truth becomes clear, it is almost too late.

FANTASTIC NARATION
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Great book - lots of interesting characters, but the story got predictable right at the end
Surprisingly tedious and self-indulgent
Ive listened or read all the books in the Alan Banks detective series and have to say the present book is the least enjoyable owing to a thin story padded out by far too much irrelevant ramblings not least the long sections devoted to the simplistic psychological speculations of a profiler. The book is full of psychological navel-gazing by Banks about his past loves and missed opportunities for relationships. Altogether the book has far too much psychology and not enough detection.
The author has always had a propensity to insert too much of, I guess, his musical taste and opinions, but in this book it is excessive and self-indulgent. We also dont need to know every detail of what people are wearing or the decor of rooms. It all smacks of an author tired of his successful series and merely fulfilling the need for an annual book.
The narrator is excellent.
A little predictable ....
This one was too predictable for me. The dual strands of the old murder and New made it quite obvious where we were heading. Not a classic Banks but still enjoyed it and it's well written. I could do without the condescending music and poetry stuff but at least Alan isn't an Alcoholic.
As good as ever
After some very hit and miss audio books, it was an absolute pleasure to listen to something by such a great author. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Consistent characterization and a good plot. I've listened to all the DCI Banks novels and they are uniformly excellent. What a shame the TV series was so miss-cast.
