    Title: Last Breath
    Author: Tom Barber
    Narrator: Bill Murray
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 20 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-05-18
    Publisher: Cherry Hill Publishing, LLC
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
A federal manhunt is underway across the United States. A sniper has killed three people in three different cities during the last 72 hours and he's gone to ground somewhere in Washington, DC. No one can find him, and riots have erupted on the streets in response to the shootings.
The lead suspect is a police officer. As the search for the cop intensifies, the violence engulfing the US capital means nowhere and no one is safe, especially the police, who are being targeted by rioters and gangs are making the most of the opportunity and taking over the streets.
With the killer on the loose, individuals are taking the law into their own hands. A 14-year-old boy moves through the riot zone, determined to find the killer. A reporter tries to make her way into the city despite the rioting, wanting to get to the suspect before anyone else. And NYPD Detective Sam Archer arrives in the city visiting family. Or so it would appear.
In the eighth instalment of the Sam Archer thriller series, the young NYPD cop finds himself drawn into a situation far beyond his control, in a city being torn apart by rioting and violence. Forced to fight or die and to protect others in danger on the streets, his focus is reduced to the absolute, most basic human instinct: survive.
And as long as Archer has breath in his lungs, he can still fight back.

    action, suspense, mystery and mayhem...
Each book in this series exceeded expectations and was better than the previous books. Every single book had me on the edge of my seat, and when all the layers of the onion have been pulled back, the resulting conspiracy behind the explosive 8th novel in the Sam Archer series is a surprise, but so believable there can be no doubt - I should have seen that coming!
Sam Archer is the penultimate hero, the guy who won't die, the guy who never walks away from danger, rather, runs to it so that others' lives may be saved. As long as Sam has breath he will fight! The recurring characters have all been developed into solid players in the situations explored in each book. Having now read through all 8 novels, I can't wait for another Sam Archer challenge to sink my teeth into.
I can't think of any series that has so grabbed my attention and kept me interested, salivating for more. There is never a dull moment when Sam Archer goes to work! Even when it seems the last chance has passed, Archer manages to seemingly rise from the dead to bring the bad guys to justice. I highly recommend all books in this series and they do not have to be read in sequence. Each book is a stand alone winner.
I rarely rate any book 5 stars, but each and every novel in this series is worthy of all 5 stars and then some! Non stop action, gripping suspense and MacGuyver like plans manage to keep Archer in the winning position, even if it seems like there can be no hope for Sam and Co to once again beat the odds and emerge victorious.
Many thanks to Tom Barber for creating such a compelling protagonist and uber compelling situations to overcome the odds. Just how many lives does Sam Archer have, anyway!?!?!?
    Adrenaline rushing thriller series.
I have just read this entire series in about 8 days. Definite adrenaline rush. Each book has a lot of violence and it seems a miracle when Sam Archer survives his battles. This is my first review, however I will write review on the others and they all deserve 5 stars. Action thrillers, crazy plots.

    PLEASE CHANGE READER!!!
CAROL MONDA SHOULDN'T READ PROFESSIONALLY. If audible has negative stars, I'd give Performance a negative 5 stars.
She has ruined Sharpe and Donovan for me. She can't do accents, all male characters sound the same, all female characters sound the same.
I skipped through much of the book, I just can't listen to the reader. I'm done with Sharpe and Donovan. I enjoyed the first 3 books so much, I cringed through the following books but I should never have bought this one. She just irritates me so much, can't do it any longer. Would love to know how this ends, but not sure I ever will.

    Members Reviews:
    An Inspector Frank Stave series.
This book is set in Hamburg in 1947 and is a German translation. A child body is found is a shipyard and Inpector Frank Stave need to maneuver the polictal mind fields to solve the case. If you are a fan of police procedural and enjoy historical fiction this is a great book. It is the 2nd book of the series and I can't wait for others to be translated.
    A new favorite author
I like Chief Inspector Stave a lot. I don't always agree with his personal choices (hug him for goodness sake) but he's a good cop and a nice guy. His interactions with the 14-year old girl were kind.
Hamburg in 1947 is another character in the book. Not a city that has been featured a lot. Very interesting place and time. I do question whether the term "baby bump" was used in the Forties though.
    Excellent narration.
I hope there are more books. I look forward to them.
Frank Stave's Next Adventure is about to Begin
This is Cay Rademacher's Second novel in the Frank Stave Series. In this book, Stave has been asked to investigate the deaths of several children, the first was found in a storage shed at the Hamburg port having been stabbed, during the course of the book two other children were to die. The question is why? Set in the British Control Zone of Germany in 1947. There are children roaming the streets, having lost there parents during allied bombing raids. The Children, known as "Wolf Children" live rough in the ruins of the city, do what ever they can to make ends meet, usually involving some connection to the city's black market. Stave is keen to solve the case, particularly, after the death of one of the children, an under-age prostitute, who has become tangled up in the saga. Stave of course has much besides the case on his mind, his son, Karl has been missing since the end of the war, is he still alive? If he is, where is he? Stave has recently started a relationship and he worries about how Karl will react.
The Wolf Children, is a great second novel, a worthy follow up to his debut, Murderer in the Ruins. The book has many inter-woven strands which makes the Wolf Children an engaging read, It develops the characters from the first book, particularly James C McDonald, a British Army Officer who has been called upon again to assist Stave with his enquiries. I'm looking forward to Stave's next outing - hopefully, it won't be a long wait

    FANTASTIC NARATION
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Great book - lots of interesting characters, but the story got predictable right at the end
    Surprisingly tedious and self-indulgent
Ive listened or read all the books in the Alan Banks detective series and have to say the present book is the least enjoyable owing to a thin story padded out by far too much irrelevant ramblings not least the long sections devoted to the simplistic psychological speculations of a profiler. The book is full of psychological navel-gazing by Banks about his past loves and missed opportunities for relationships. Altogether the book has far too much psychology and not enough detection.
The author has always had a propensity to insert too much of, I guess, his musical taste and opinions, but in this book it is excessive and self-indulgent. We also dont need to know every detail of what people are wearing or the decor of rooms. It all smacks of an author tired of his successful series and merely fulfilling the need for an annual book.
    The narrator is excellent.
    A little predictable ....
This one was too predictable for me. The dual strands of the old murder and New made it quite obvious where we were heading. Not a classic Banks but still enjoyed it and it's well written. I could do without the condescending music and poetry stuff but at least Alan isn't an Alcoholic.
    As good as ever
After some very hit and miss audio books, it was an absolute pleasure to listen to something by such a great author. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Consistent characterization and a good plot. I've listened to all the DCI Banks novels and they are uniformly excellent. What a shame the TV series was so miss-cast.
    another grate lision
if you havent heard any of the other in this series get lisioning there fantastic this book is again thrilling and enjoyable it griping and intresting

    Suspenseful Romance At Its Best!!!
I could not stop listening to Web of Deceit. The characters are relatable and I quickly became invested wanting to know more. The story is fast passed and keeps you engaged from start to finish. Jack Wayne is an awesome narrator! His distinct character voices allow the listener to easily follow the story. I am looking forward to reading more in the Agents Under Fire Series.
    A Great Listen
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. I found it very entertaining. All the main characters are broken by their pasts, and struggle through many challenges as the plot develops, continuing to built suspense until the end. The characters are well written and intriguing. This fast paced tale is hard to turn off. I found myself listening to it longer than I intended.
    a+
thrilling murder story , could have moved a bit faster , excellent narration by Jack Wayne
    Too Much Barbie and Ken
Her plots are interesting, and I appreciate that the book is fairly clean, although there is really corny innuendo that is sickening and cliched. I've read a few of her books, and in all of them when the main female character chews on her bottom lip, the result is the same - the main male character starts to get turned on. There are borderline descriptions of them having sexual fantasies for each other. They are always gorgeous perfect looking people, kind of like Barbie and Ken. Lines are overused and repeated across her books to describe such as the guy wanting to tuck the stray hair behind her ear, she chews on her bottom lip etc.

    Members Reviews:
    Chilling, excellent writing.
Although the storytelling of the male narrator is quite flat, it didn't bother me. The female narrator spoke of the past, the male narrator of the present, and the story speaks for itself. A fascinating story in a fascinating country. Chilling, but not sensationalist. Intriguing and compelling to the last moment.
    Better without Thora
What did you love best about The Undesired?
    I like the central character.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Undesired?
    The beginning is memorable!
What does Karen Cass and Nick Underwood bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    They spoke clearly.
    Any additional comments?
After my first venture into Icelandic suspense, I was ready to send this back and I am glad I didn't. This book held my interest. I gave it four stars because..... Well read it and see what you think, but it was an easier read than the first Thora also by Yrsa Sigurdardottir.
    FIVE
This is so good. Just start listening and let the author's story carry you along. When you wonder at some of the detailed parts that seem to slow down the action - just stay with it. No gore. Yes, plot ywists and surprises.
Male narrator made ruined the book for me.
I love the novels by Yrsa Sigurdardottir so I was excited to listen to her latest novel. BUT the male narrator's style made it impossible to listen; so bad that I had to return the novel. His intonation was so flat and without inflection or any energy (emotional or breath support-wise) that I found it physically unnerving. His narration was made even worse by its contrast to the female narrator who was very good. Think I will read novel with my own eyes.
OK but not the best Scandinavian Noir
I am a fan of Scandinavian noir and this was recommended for that category...However the Scandanavianess of this book is non-existant. There was a little mystery, the story is a bit depressing but even so it held my interest till the end. The ending was was ..."meh" . I feel like this book could have been so much more. The narrator made the male voice very boring.
