Islamic State on the front lines

Would you try another book from Isaac Hooke and/or Grant Richardson?

Probably not. It was OK, but a couple of times I had to press myself to keep going. Their are enough other books out there that really grab me, that I will probably skip the next by Hooke or Richardson.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was fairly basic. I wouldn't describe it as edge-of-your-seat type drama. However, some action sequences do a good job of grabbing your interest. I did enjoy the interaction that "Ethan" had with the Islamic State throughout the book. I've never had first-hand interaction, but Hooke painted a very believable portrait of what the life and mentality would seem to be like.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Richardson has a fairly broad range with his voices and accents. Unfortunately, some of the main characters (one of them in particular) seem forced. Also, the voices don't seem to be 100% consistent. No doubt, in a book such as this, it is a tall order to do it very well. I just didn't feel that Richardson was quite able to pull it off and make it believable at all times.

Do you think Clandestine needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The book is obviously intended to be the first in a series. For some that seek a closer of the current world between ISIL and the Kurds, it may be a series that is appreciated.

A Touch of the Present

This book was definitely an invite into what is happening in the Middle East today. Living with someone who is behind the lines is eye-opening. The danger for those who are trying to overtake the Islamic radicals is heartfelt. I hope Ethan will stay to help those who are oppressed.

Good Story - Horrible Narration

This book was given by the author to me at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audio book Boom. That being said, I listen to quite a few audio books and found the story to be quite interesting, however the narration was so poor and distracting, I had a very hard time finishing it.

Good Read...

I've read three of this author's books; the first two from the Estate series and Someone Watching You. So far Someone Watching You has been my favorite, but overall I have enjoyed them all. I definitely think the author is a pretty good writer. The storylines make sense and there is always the unexpected, twists and turns. I enjoyed this one as well and I liked the way she connected the story and characters from book one by touching on some of them, but moving right along to the next set of characters at the Mitchell. I loved the growth in Josie and Kelly. We as woman have to stop being the victim for the sake of love and both of these women got that and sooner rather than later. I'm excited about book three because it's focus is Stanley Street with the notorious Bradley clan. Keep the Estate series going because the Mitchell has loads of stories to tell.

Great read!

I would recommend this book to anyone! If you like a mystery with some romance thrown in for good measure, then this is for you.

Great read

I love reading books about strong women. I particularly am enjoying this series as its set in another country. Subtle differences in setting and language variations, but loving the fact that women everywhere can create changes in their environment and within themselves anywhere!

A Traditional English Mystery

If you like traditional English murder mysteries, then you should get this book. The story takes place at a manor house turned hotel. In order to save the family home, Midge and her husband Reggie, begin hosting a series of murder weekends for people from the states. The story starts off slow, but picks up after the characters are developed. Babson does a very good job recreating the 1930's golden age of mystery. As I listened to the story I completely forgot that the story takes place in modern times.

What I don't like about the story is how everything gets wrapped quickly and conveniently at the end of the story. I also felt like there were some things that didn't get solved. I don't want to give away the story so I won't go into detail. However, after reading this story, I might read a classic mystery instead of my usual contemporary cozy mystery.

Written in the 1980's-unbelievable,confusing

Because this is an Audible book meant to be heard, not read, the multiple characters, many of whom are playing a different character become muddled together. The sole narrator did his best, I suppose, but his female characters sounded similar to each other. The story line is preposterous, ponderous and the only sympathetic character in the book was the house cat. Please don't waste your time on this book. I wasted 6 hours of my life on it. don't make that mistake.

Try to Find Someone that's Likable.

Everyone in the hotel is always complaining, the guests are always complaining and eventually I didn't care enough about anyone to finish the book.

Great Golden Age homage

if you love cozies you'll love this one ! a la Murder at Hazelmoor or The Mousetrap. Very entertaining.

Give it a chance.

I made the mistake of listening to the bad reviews on this book and avoided buying it for quite some time. This book is not about the murder mystery, but listening to a cozy, enjoyable story about some folks that paid for a mystery weekend. The other reviews mainly complained about the boredom they experienced while listening to the characters drone on about nothing.

Captivating but expected.

Wonderful storytelling! This novel really captures my attention and I listened to it rather quickly because I was anticipating a shocking revelation in the end. However, the actual conclusion and solving of the case was somewhat boring and easily anticipated. It was still a very well written, suspenseful book, though!

Be patient gets better

Starts off slow but then becomes good and you don't want to put down. Good narration and you get a feeling of the characters

If you can get over annoying irritating inflections in speech of two readers it's worth listening to.

I almost gave up after a couple of hours simply because of the male narrator's irritatingly inflection in his voice. When he was 'into ' his character this was less obvious , he's actually a good reader with lots of colour and expression , but I won't buy another audible book with him reading. When I first heard the female journalist's voice I thought 'oh no! Same inflection " I figured whoever picked the two readers must like this kind of voice. The voice of the 'girl' was excellent . To me if the voices aren't to my liking I find it hard to enjoy. The story was okay, easy listening , worth reading even with it's fairly abrupt ending . Nothing special but glad I got to end. It's not in the same ball park of Gillian Flynn or Paula Hawkins but perfect to entertain when doing something mundane - long drive , ironing etc...

Don't believe the hype!

I honestly have no idea how this book has so many great reviews. The story was uninteresting, had a predictable ending was and without any real climax to keep the readers hooked. Don't waste 9+ hours listening to this

Tom Clancy must be turning over in his grave

This is not a book and certainly not a novel! It is much more like a high level outline that could have potential but was not researched in detail. Also, the writing is not storytelling but rather a number of statements strung together without much of an attempt to weave a tapestry that would have enjoyable to read or listen to.

All in all a real disappointment!

Welcome to Shredder 2.0

As this series descends deeper and deeper into a defense of Christianity, I lose patience. Yet, some of the concepts ( which, admittedly, are more than a bit wild ) are fun, and the characters are growing in complexity and relationships.

I don't think this would be a good freestanding offering, but as a continuance of the series, it's ok.

The new reader ( Belisha ) is actually growing on me, although I sure miss his predecessor.

On balance, recommended with the caveats noted above.

Painful

The worst narration I have ever heard! I want my credit back. Could not finish.

Story is just not for me. Great Narration!

Okay so this was kind of a stupid story that went on too long before you got to anything exciting decent or explanatory. The sixers, what are they? Yep, still kind of confused about that.

I did like Zach a lot, he was charming. Micki was okay but annoying at times. There is really no romance in this book. Attraction but that's about it.

The storyline and plot were pretty lame. This did not keep my interest nor did it entertain me at all. I was very glad when it ended because it was a struggle to finish.

As for the narration, it was very good. I am a Tavia Gilbert fan so I really enjoyed it.

This narration is horrible. I've read books from Erica Spindler. All have been good books.

This one is not a good one. I stopped reading!

Beat Supernatural Concept Yet

There were times I had to remind myself it was fictional. Is it possible? Maybe!

Ok book and semi-terrible narration..

Ok, so this is a fairly good book BUT at not even at 50% and our hero had already puked twice. I was hoping THAT wouldnt continue, eeww.

It was a paranormal story and that was a good thing. Zach and Micki were teamed together in the NOPD. He was called a Sixer because of his paranormal abilities and she was a non-believer in his mumbo-jumbo, which she soon began to believe in. THEN the un-believable came about and she had a hard time with that; they were not looking for a somebody that had kidnapped two girls but something.

I wasnt all that crazy about Micki. Yeah, she was a strong and kick-butt heroine BUT she was such a biotchy smarta*#, ALL the time. Every time she opened her mouth she was raising some kind of heck at Zach for some reason. It became real tiring.

I did like the secondary characters: Angel, Jacqui, Parker, Eli, and Truebell.

There was nothing that even resembled romance in this book so if thats what youre looking for keep looking.

The F-bomb was used 15 times.

As to the narration: Tavia Gilbert is usually one of my favorite narrators but in this book she was barely OK.

Ordinary

Pace was a bit slow and kind of dull. I had to force myself to finish it. Story didn't really gel for me.

One of Tawni's best novels so far

I love Tawni O'Dell's female heroes. These women have seen the tough side of life and often had difficult childhoods. They don't put

up with fools, especially male fools. However, Tawni's female hero retains her feminine side. She is a good cook and she empathises

with kids who have had it tough like her. Yet she is an enigma, not wanting to get in too deep where relationships with men are concerned.

The lady is very much her own woman and can survive on her own. Yet she is not lacking in feminine wit, practicality and sympathy for the

underdog. She hates bullies.

Terrific Read

This book has two of the most dysfunctional families I have ever read about. The plot is page turning. I am no going to describe characters or plot because this is one you have to read and decide for yourself. A must read.

Loved it!

This is my first book by this author and narrator. Definitely not my last! Awesome story! It is book 3 in a series but was great on its own. I'll definitely be wanting books 1&2 now! The narrator did an excellent job! I'm hoping he does books 1&2 as well.

Can they find the lost girl before it is too late.

A young girl disappears on the edge of the Sycamore wilderness. The distraught mother runs into Diego, a big hearted biker and outlaw who promises to find her daughter. The massive manhunt begins. When Diegos friend, Detective Maxim finds another lost girl, the mystery grows, pointing to the occult and mysteries beyond the obvious.

Most of the story reads like a detective novel, unraveling clues that seem to lead to dead ends, only to point to the strangeness of the girls disappearance. Local stories of mysterious lights and laughing children deep in the forest, are at first dismissed, but seem to point to a mystery far greater than the police can handle. Can they find the lost girl before it is too late.

The novel is generally entertaining and contains plenty of action, though is seems somehow disconnected. The listener often feels forgotten, like he or she is eavesdropping on a story being told between strangers. Hard to explain, but less compelling than one would hope for. There is also a lot of rehashing of things weve just heard, recaps of events and interior thoughts. It slows the progression of the plot in this listeners opinion.

The audio is performed by Jason Jewett who does a good job. He has a pleasant reading voice and differentiates the characters well enough. There isnt a lot of energy to his reading, but it is hard to determine if that is his interpretation or the writing.

The Green Children is a detective story that turns into fantasy. It is alluded to throughout the novel, but doesnt reveal itself until the novel is nearly complete. It is book three in a series, but can easily be read alone. Everything wraps up into a neat package at the end. If you are looking for a detective novel with a touch of the occult, this may be what you are looking for.

Over dramatized

The only thing more unbelievable than this story is the mind numbing, overly dramatic narration. Blah!

real good book

I would have done 4.5 on story if I could. the story was great except at one point where things got a little to complicated with too many people lying to one another at the same time. Was a little too outrageous. But the author turned it back around and it started getting really good again. It was just in one chapter. If you like espionage stories this one is more than worth the credit.

Can't wait for the next installment!

Fantastic addition to the Same Capra story! Kevin T Collins is a superb voice actor.

Plot was very difficult to follow

This story made no sense at all, the plot and characters were not believable, I really struggled to listen to the very end.

A thrilling continuation of Sam's story. I was hoping Danny would live. I hope Melia I'd in the next story.
