SLO City Together: Conversations on everyday life and the way of Jesus.

Welcome to episode 166 of the SLO City Together Podcast! In this episode, Brent and Luke reunite after several podcastless months to catch up on the holidays, remember the Christmas Eve service, look forward to the future of our church amid the Rooted campaign, and end with a brief discussion on special sauces.

In this message we explore the vision Jesus has for the Church - a community rooted in His love, seeking His kingdom, and actively living out His mission to transform lives, serve others, and bring His reign into the world.

In this message from Matthew 4, we explore how Jesus faces temptation in the wilderness - challenging us to examine where our true worship and allegiance lie: more or enough, comfort or obedience, power or servanthood, self or God.

This week, guest speaker, Levi Marychurch, explores Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness to reveal how God uses seasons of hunger, hardship, and testing to refine our focus, anchor our identity in His Word, and teach us to live not by appetite or performance, but by faithful dependence on God.

As we close out the year, we often find ourselves reviewing the “receipts” of our lives—what we spent time on, what shaped us, and what truly mattered. In this message, we look to the beginning of Jesus’ ministry in Matthew 3 and discover how obedience, identity, and the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit shaped His path forward. As Jesus is baptized, He begins not with platform or power, but with surrender—grounded in obedience, affirmed in His identity as God’s beloved Son, and sent with strength by the Spirit. As we step toward a new year, this sermon invites us to ask honest questions about who we are, where we’re headed, and what we want our future receipts to say.

On Christmas Eve – We considered the power of just a few words: fear not, good news, great joy, for all people.

In this Advent message, we explore how Jesus is the one who meets the wandering, the lost, and the overlooked with light, invitation, and hope - revealing Himself as the Savior for everyone.

Today, Luke brings a message reminding us, through Mary and Joseph’s story, that in seasons of waiting, worry, and interruption, God meets us with His goodness, His presence, and His power.
