In his magnum opus, The Waste Land, T.S. Eliot wrote that "April is the cruelest month." In hopes to prove him right, the Slumscast will be inflicting four episodes on you this month, beginning with our most controversial episode yet, in which we and special guest Cranked put an entire Netrunner faction on red alert. Also in this episode: the Slums hosts face their most formidable foe yet (the rules of Netrunner), and we solve one of the greatest mysteries in the history of the game.

Why do we play Netrunner? It may seem like a silly question -- if you're listening to this episode, you've probably played Netrunner yourself, possibly for many years, and you probably have an idea of what you like about the game. But it's a question worth asking: why, among so many other card games, board games, and dystopian Cyberpunk properties, are we drawn to Netrunner in particular?

This is the Slumscast. We don't have answers to the life's biggest questions. What we do have is our own personal journeys through Netrunner -- from the first time we sleeved up a card, to the first time we got destroyed at a tournament at our local game store, to the first time we traveled across the country to play Netrunner with friends we'd made through the game. This episode, we talk about those journeys, and we talk about the ways Netrunner has been, in a word, pretty fuckin' cool.
