What is CITA and why do dental students have to complete this licensure exam?  In years past, North Carolina  used live-patient based CITA exams to determine dental student competency.  Today, Matt and Landon are joined by their classmate, Skylar McGaughey, to discuss their initiative to transition to manikin based CITA exams.  Listen to the episode to learn more about the concerns surrounding live-patient exams and their goals for change.

Dr. Nixon is an esteemed dentist in McAdenville, North Carolina (approximately 10 minutes west of Charlotte). He graduated with a B.S. in Biology from UNC-Chapel Hill and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from UNC School of Dentistry in 2002. He has worked in McAdenville since he graduated where he has grown his current office, Christmastown Dentistry (https://www.christmastowndentistry.com/), into a high-volume practice that utilizes the most up-to-date technology while taking great care of all his patients. He is happily married to his wife, Stephanie, and has three kids.

Dr. Andrews is a distinguished general dentist in Florida. He served as a Navy Corpsman with the US Marines from 1962-68 and as a Navy Dentist with an Oral Surgery fellowship from 1974-78. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Marquette University in 1974. He has a Ph.D. in Pain Management, Pain Research, and Education. Dr. Andrews has a vast array of affiliations, among them are being a Diplomate with the American Academy of Pain Management and with the American College of Forensic Examiners. Dr. Andrews' varying experiences enables him to speak on the importance of adaptation and self-reinvention.
