If you caught the Star Wars reference in the title of this podcast, relax. I’m not going to try Jedi mind tricks on you. What I am going to do is talk about why you’re working too hard for too long for too little. About how you’re practically roller-skating between operatories trying to keep up with a packed schedule. And about why the idea of time away from the practice has become a fading dream. I’m going to talk about how you can make dentistry everything it’s supposed to be. Stay tuned.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – I’d like to share something that Dr. Travis Watson of Marietta, Georgia, said:
    – “A consistent goal that we have is to continue to have the new patients come in that are high-quality, who are interested in comprehensive dentistry …
    – “… and really just want something better for themselves and aren’t just what we call single-tooth type situations.
    – “They’re more of the fine cases that we enjoy doing.
    – “So that’s always going to be a goal for us as we move forward with a company like SmartBox to help us with that.”
    – Think about that for a second.
    – Dr. Watson has a goal of getting better patients, patients that aren’t one-and-dones, insurance-driven, or price shopping.
    – That’s because he’s figured out that with the right patients, he can earn more while working less.
    – What kinds of patients are in your chairs?
    – And what kind of average case value are you getting?
    – Dentistry was never intended to be a volume-driven profession.
    – But that’s what it has evolved into for way too many dentists.
    – They’re working too hard for too long for too little because they’re not attracting the right kind of patients.
    – Let’s be clear – almost every practice has some relatively low-value patients.
    – But there’s a huge difference between having some of those patients and having mostly low-value patients.
    – The second scenario is what keeps dentists running frantically between operatories.
    – So let’s talk about what it takes to get better patients in your practice.
    – If you’re advertising on price, specials, discounts, or insurance, you’re not going to get many high-value patients.
    – Someone who’s looking at a full-mouth reconstruction isn’t going to care much about a 5 percent discount for prepayment.
    – They’re interested in finding the right dentist for them.
    – The right dentist is the one they like, trust, and consider the dental expert to solve their issues.
    – It’s nearly impossible to convey all that with traditional dental marketing.
    – Convincing a better prospect is a process, not a single event.
    – All of your marketing has to work together to gradually persuade prospects that they should choose you.
    – That’s particularly true for your online marketing because today’s dental prospects overwhelmingly begin their search for a dentist online.
    – Your website, your blog, and your social media have to present a consistent impression of you and your staff.
    – Your online patient testimonials have to reinforce that impression.
    – Better dental patients want to know 3 things.
    – Number 1: Will you understand my dental issues and not judge me?
    – Number 2: Can I trust you to take good care of me?
    – Number 3: Will choosing you as my dentist make my life better?
    – In short, the relationship aspect of choosing a dentist is even more important to better patients than price.
    – Most dentists struggle to answer those questions in their marketing.
    – And they’re too busy seeing too many patients for not enough money to revamp their marketing.
    – That’s where SmartBox comes in.
    – SmartBox provides a steady stream of better patients to dentists so they can focus on a[...]

  • Why Do You Have A Dental Practice?
Having trouble watching this video? Click here.
    Patient Attraction Episode 1169
Dentists who own their practices are different from dentists who don’t. That’s pretty much a “doh!” conclusion, but it bears thinking about. Why do you own your business with all of the headaches that come with ownership rather than working for someone else? After all, associate dentists can make a very good living and provide well for themselves and their families. After the break, I’ll discuss the implications of dental practice ownership and how to make sure that your goals align with your marketing. Stay tuned.
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – I’m a business owner, so I like to think that I get what drives other business owners.
    – After meeting with thousands of dentists who own their practices, I think I can break their motivations down into 5 categories.
    – See how many of these apply to you, but remember that these are broad strokes and may not fit you exactly.
    – Still, I think you’ll see yourself in here somewhere.
    – Number 1: Being in charge.
    – In-charge dentists like to call their own shots and make their own decisions.
    – They’re not overly good at following someone else’s lead unless it’s from a specialist in a particular aspect of business who they hired and trust.
    – They like the idea of succeeding thanks to just their own merit as dentists and businesspeople.
    – Number 2: They’re perfectionists.
    – Perfectionist dentists have high standards that they refuse to compromise.
    – They own their businesses because they can make sure that everything is done exactly the way it should be.
    – Perfectionists aren’t always the easiest people to work for, but there’s no doubt that they provide high-quality care.
    – In fact, I see this motive most often among dentists who love everything about dentistry.
    – They aren’t just going through the motions, no matter how long they’ve been in practice.
    – Number 3: They’re altruistic people who care about making an impact on their communities.
    – It’s true that dentistry is one of the most sought-after professions due to earning potential and working conditions.
    – Some dentists are on a mission to improve the oral health and the lives of the people in their communities.
    – I see that more often among dentists who open their practices in the towns where they grew up.
    – But even dentists who relocate to other towns can adopt the community as their own and focus on improving lives.
    – Number 4: They want to push the boundaries of dentistry.
    – I don’t meet a high percentage of dentists who fall into this category.
    – Most often, they’re creative types who delight in complex procedures, including cosmetic dentistry and full-mouth reconstruction.
    – They’re constantly looking for better ways to improve smiles and the healthy functioning of people’s mouths.
    – Owning their practices gives them the freedom to pursue creative solutions.
    – And number 5: They want to make a lot of money and retire well.
    – This one is probably true of all dentists, but particularly so among practice owners.
    – Owners have the freedom to set rates and to implement best practices, including fiscal management.
    – Owners can decide which dental patients to market to, and how.
    – Now, probably every dentist practice owner has at least 2 of these motivations, but that’s not the point.
    – No matter why you own your practice, are the patients you’re getting going to allow you to accomplish your goals?
    – Do you feel in control when insurance companies deny or second-guess treatment?
    – Do things get done to your standards when patients will only pay for the cheapest option?
    – Do the patients you’re getting give you the resources to give back the way you’d like?
    – Do you get enough pat[...]

    Patient Attraction Episode 1168
Do you remember when you graduated from dental school and began practicing as a dentist? You were looking at a bright future, and you were willing to work hard to achieve the success you wanted. Now you’ve been in practice for 5, 10, 15, 20 years or more. Are you still having to work hard for your success? Has your practice become what you envisioned, or has that bright future tarnished? After the break, I’ll tell why it’s not too late to make your dental practice everything you dreamed about. Stay tuned.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – I think that dentistry is too good a profession to settle for less than excellent.
    – But I know thousands of dentists who are doing exactly that.
    – They work too hard for too long for too little.
    – Their earnings aren’t what they should be for their skill level and dedication to their patients.
    – And they’re pretty much bored with what they’re doing.
    – That once-shiny future isn’t looking so bright.
    – But they keep doing what’s not working well enough because they think they have no choice.
    – That may be you, and if it is, I’m happy to tell you that you don’t have to settle for less than excellent.
    – There’s a proven way to make your dental practice everything you’ve always wanted.
    – Just ask Dr. Raleigh Pioch of Salem, Oregon.
    – He said, “I thank my lucky stars I discovered the way to break free.
    – “For me, my practice is the path to true freedom.
    – “I want to be free to live a full life and have the money to do it!
    – “And it’s hard to be ‘free’ if you’re stuck behind a chair 24/7.
    – “I’m living proof that the strategies WORK.
    – “They work so well that they helped me take my practice from $800K to $3.2 million in just 6 years. We couldn’t stop the growth.”
    – You’ve probably guessed that Dr. Pioch chose SmartBox to transform his practice.
    – I think you’ll agree that Dr. Pioch’s success story is quite remarkable.
    – But he’s not the only dentist whose practice has been taken to the next level and beyond by partnering with SmartBox.
    – Dr. Thomas Feder of Belleville, Illinois, is experiencing success like he’s never known.
    – He told us, “Our average case value has increased.
    – “People are coming in looking for dentures and implants.
    – “The practice is now overwhelming our dental lab.
    – “I’ve never had income like this.”
    – And another dentist from Missouri said, “Since we’ve been using SmartBox, we’ve had great success.
    – “Last month was 160 leads, which is a great response.
    – “The amount of traffic, the bigger cases, the implant cases that we’re getting are 90 percent driven from the website.”
    – SmartBox is in the business of helping   thrive.
    – We provide a steady stream of better patients that represent higher lifetime value to our doctors.
    – Dentists who partner with SmartBox get to focus on doing the dentistry rather than overseeing their marketing.
    – And that’s what makes them money, after all.
    – But just as important, we help them get the patients they want.
    – Our doctors don’t have to settle in any respect.
    – If you’d like to polish up your practice’s future and make it bright and shiny again, here’s what you should do.

  • Transform Your Dental Practice AND Your Life

    Patient Attraction Episode 1167
Have you ever wanted the “glamorous” life of a dentist to the stars? Probably not, and there isn’t room for many of those, anyway. But there’s a lot of ground between the typical dentist’s life and having nothing but A-listers on your schedule. There’s “better” out there, and if you claim your share, it’ll transform your practice and your life. When we come back, I’ll tell you how to do just that. Stay tuned.
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – Dentistry generally isn’t a glamorous profession, but it should be a rewarding one.
    – And by rewarding, I mean gratifying both personally and financially.
    – You’re helping people and you’re even changing lives in some cases.
    – You should be paid very well for doing that.
    – Are you being paid what you’re worth?
    – Or are you saddled with an unending stream of low-value cases?
    – Are you getting beaten up by insurance companies and undercut by corporate practices?
    – Are you doing work you truly enjoy, or are you settling for what walks in the door?
    – Since you’re watching this podcast, I’ll assume you’re looking for more.
    – You’re looking to transform your practice and your life.
    – You’re looking for better.
    – That’s good, because helping dentists  get better patients is all SmartBox does.
    – Our industry-leading Patient Attraction System® provides a fully integrated approach to both online and offline dental marketing.
    – We position you and your practice as the preferred choice for the patients you want to attract.
    – Better patients are about 20 to 30 percent of almost all markets.
    – They have the resources and willingness to pay more for the right dentist.
    – And they’re usually very loyal to the dentist they choose.
    – Those better patients are your ticket to the future you want to build.
    – That might be a future where you’re opening multiple offices, handling only the cases you love to do, or socking away money for retirement.
    – Or it could be having the freedom to take time away from work.
    – Dr. Michael Abernathy, founder of Summit Practice Solutions, knows a thing or two about working toward goals.
    – He wrote, “If you’re not working towards something that’s going to give you freedom, what in the world are you working towards?
    – “I’ll tell you: MORE WORK.
    – “There’s a better way. You just need the blueprint to build it.
    – “I can say with all confidence that Colin Receveur knows what he’s doing to leverage the internet to help dentists attract better patients.”
    – Dr. Abernathy brings up an excellent point – what are you working for?
    – I listed some possibilities before, but it wasn’t an exhaustive list.
    – Whatever you want in the realm of “better,” you can count on SmartBox to help you get it.
    – That’s what we’re doing for Dr. Sean Hanson of Salem, Oregon.
    – He said, “I will be able to spend more time away from the office, and that’s really my biggest thing.
    – “Not that I don’t like working and not that I don’t like my job …
    – “… but if I know that I have good doctors here and good hygienists and good staff members, then if I’m here, I’m just another pair of hands.
    – “Ultimately, I can go and take a week vacation with my kids and take them to Europe or go somewhere farther away than just California.
    – “That is ultimately the goal: that I’m not spending my 40s and 50s slaving away doing dentistry.”
    – If you’re ready to begin realizing your dreams, here’s your first step.
    – Visit smartboxdentalmarketing.com and reserve your free, no-obligation Practice Discovery Session.
    – We’ll discuss your goals, your capabilities, and your particular market.

  • Do You Have What It Takes to Be a “Renegade Dentist”?

    Patient Attraction Episode 1166
I hate to say it, but there’s a herd mentality among dentists. What I mean by that is that dentists tend to market their practices like other dentists – on price, availability, discounts, and insurance acceptance. They don’t take the steps to set themselves apart from their competition, so to prospects, one dentist is as good as another. The dentists who succeed on their own terms have the grit and determination to forge their own paths. When we come back, I’ll tell you how to buck the “system.”
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – I know thousands of dentists, and I’m amazed at how few make any effort to stand out.
    – I’m also amazed at how many dentists are frustrated by how their practice is going but make no real effort to change.
    – You know the saying – if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.
    – But change seems to be hard for a lot of dentists.
    – Even though they’re getting a lot of low case value patients – price shoppers, insurance-driven patients, and one-and-dones – they keep on marketing the same way.
    – I don’t know whether that’s you, but if it is, the time has come to forget the traditional dental marketing approach.
    – I say that because competition is heating up in almost every market.
    – If corporate dentistry isn’t in your market now, it will be.
    – If practices in your area haven’t joined a dental service organization yet, some of them will.
    – If new dental school graduates haven’t opened new practices in your market, just wait.
    – It’s not a case of getting what you’ve always gotten – you’ll get less.
    – I don’t mean to sound all doom and gloom, but those are the facts.
    – So if there was ever a time to rebel, it’s now.
    – But I understand that completely revamping a dental practice’s marketing approach is a lot of work.
    – In fact, it may be too much work for the typical busy practice.
    – Dr. Ryan Shepherd of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was ready to change, and he chose SmartBox.
    – He told us, “After I did one of the webinars, I really felt confident that you guys knew what you were doing.
    – “You could take me from point A to point B with virtually no pain on my part and relatively little involvement on my part.
    – “And that’s important to me because I don’t have time to become an expert; I’ve gotta be a dentist, I’ve gotta be a business owner.
    – “I knew that in order to make a significant stride and a significant change, it was going to have to be something that was a significant investment.
    – “I wasn’t shocked in the least when I was told how much this was going to cost.
    – “And when I break it down, I think it’s absolutely worth every penny of it.”
    – You can succeed on your own terms with SmartBox.
    – We take care of providing a steady stream of better patients.
    – You’re freed up to focus on doing the dentistry on higher-value patients.
    – That means less work, more money, less hassle.
    – It even means time away from the practice for most dentists.
    – Discover what our industry-leading Patient Attraction System® can do for you.
    – Visit smartboxdentalmarketing.com and reserve your free, no-obligation Practice Discovery Session.
    – We’ll discuss your goals, your capabilities, and your particular market.

    – If you have it in you to be renegade dentist, the future is wide open.
    – SmartBox will help you get there.

  • Dentists Can Actually Have Time Away From Work
Having trouble watching this video? Click here.
    Patient Attraction Episode 1165
If there’s one thing small business owners like dentists crave, it’s time away from the business. I know, because that was me until a year or two ago. We wear too many hats and have too many responsibilities to feel comfortable being gone. But the whole purpose of working for yourself is to be the decision-maker. That should include being able to take a few days off once in a while. After the break, I’ll tell you the best way to position yourself and your dental practice so you can enjoy the rest of life. Stay tuned.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – Dentists who own their practices typically wear too many hats.
    – They’re juggling personnel issues, practice insurance, supply chain management, marketing, and a host of other things.
    – That’s in addition to their diagnostic and treatment responsibilities.
    – Is this you?
    – If so, did you really think this was what dentistry was going to be like?
    – You may have heard the old saying, “When you’re up to your butt in alligators, it’s hard to remember that your original intention was to drain the swamp.”
    – That’s a fair description of dental practices for many dentists.
    – It means that time away from  the practice hardly ever happens.
    – In fact, for many dentists, work follows them home.
    – That impacts dentists’ family lives and social lives.
    – It also increases their overall stress and fatigue.
    – That’s a shame because dentistry should be a joy to practice, not a constant, frantic juggling act.
    – Dr. Kevin McMahon of Edgewood, Kentucky, knows that “up to your butt” feeling all too well.
    – But he found a way to lessen his load.
    – He said, “I’m very happy with SmartBox.
    – “It actually puts my marketing on autopilot.
    – “That makes it a lot easier for me.
    – “It’s something I don’t have to worry about.
    – “I’m the owner of the practice here, so I’m managing a bunch of people.
    – “If I can take something off my plate like that – that I know is quality, is going to work, that I’m proud of – that makes a big difference for me.
    – “I can put that to the side and do other things I’ve got to do.”
    – What would your life be like if you could devote one hour a month to your marketing?
    – Odds are that would free up a huge chunk of time.
    – That’s not only possible with SmartBox, it’s the rule for our dentists.
    – We take care of providing a steady stream of better patients.
    – Our doctors get to focus on actually doing the dentistry, which is what makes them money.
    – And since we get them better patients with higher lifetime value to the practice, those dentists don’t have to work as hard.
    – As just one example, Dr. McMahon didn’t just lighten his workload, he changed it.
    – He told us, “I’m staying busier in times that normally, I wouldn’t be busier.
    – “I’m being more productive in things that I’m doing.
    – “I’m moving toward the larger cases, implants, things like that, and have associates do other work.”
    – And with associates to handle the day-to-day dentistry, Dr. McMahon is in a much better position to actually enjoy what he does inside the practice and outside.
    – Are you ready to start getting better patients and being able to have a life outside the practice?
    – Visit smartboxdentalmarketing.com and reserve  your free, no-obligation Practice Discovery Session.

  • Too Many Dental Patients, Too Little Money?
Having trouble watching this video? Click here.
    Patient Attraction Episode 1164
I think most people would rather be busy at their jobs than bored. Unfortunately, both of those things can happen at the same time. Dentists aren’t immune to being overworked and bored. Advertising on price and insurance acceptance brings a stream of low case value patients – routine cleanings, exams, fillings, and the occasional crown. Dentistry should be more than a daily grind, and after the break I’ll tell you how to see fewer patients while you make more money. Stay tuned.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – If you have more dental patients than time, many dentists would envy you.
    – You may not be feeling all that grateful, though.
    – I’ve talked with a lot of dentists recently who say that they’re not only booked, they’re overbooked.
    – Those dentists are nearly running between operatories trying to keep up.
    – To be sure, they’re making money.
    – But they’re paying a high price in terms of stress, fatigue, and even boredom.
    – And so are their staff members.
    – Whether they intended to or not, they’re running volume practices.
    – That means their average case values aren’t all that high.
    – It’s basically dentistry as a commodity business, which is not the best way to run a practice.
    – Don’t get me wrong – if being overwhelmed with patients is your idea of success, go for it.
    – But how long do you think you and your people will be able to keep it up?
    – And what impact does it have on staff morale and time outside the practice?
    – There’s a better way to practice dentistry, and that’s to get better patients.
    – If you’re hip-deep in low-value patients, you might not think better patients are out there.
    – But almost every market has many dental prospects with the ability and willingness to pay more for the right dentist.
    – In fact, those prospects are generally 20 to 30 percent of a given market or even more.
    – So, there’s a path to working less and earning more if you’re willing to change your approach.
    – Put that way, it might sound like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many dentists resist the idea.
    – If you are open to getting higher case value patients, you’ll  need to change the way you market.
    – You won’t get better prospects by advertising low price or insurance acceptance.
    – Look at it this way –  if someone is prepared to spend 50 or 60 grand on a car, do free oil changes really influence which one they’ll buy?
    – No, those higher-end buyers are much more interested in the quality of the vehicle and how they feel while driving it.
    – Your marketing has to convince those better prospects that having you as their dentist will yield the highest level of satisfaction.
    – It doesn’t need to convince them that they’ll save a few bucks, because they don’t really care much about that.
    – Dr. Dick Davenport of Laredo, Texas, was looking for more than low-value patients, and he found a way to get them.
    – He said, “SmartBox is a total dental marketing company.
    – “The companies I’d worked with in the past did nothing more than develop a website.
    – “They didn’t even do that very well, but that’s all they did.
    – “SmartBox looks at the whole package, and they try to figure out what you need to achieve your individual goals.
    – “It’s not just a cookie-cutter service.
    – “It’s personalized, and they look at your market area and try to figure out what will impact your practice the most effective way.”
    – Whether you’re drowning in patients or just tired of working too hard for too little, here’s your next step.

    Patient Attraction Episode 1163
There’s more to life than work, or at least there should be. A strong work ethic is admirable, and dentists typically demonstrate that trait. But there’s also having too much of a good thing, and all work and no play isn’t a formula for long-term success. If you find that you’re leaving too much of yourself in the practice, stay tuned. I’ll be back to tell you how to get a work-life balance that works for you.
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – Like you, I’m a small business owner.
    – I sacrificed a lot to build this company and make it successful.
    – But I reached a point where I said, “I’ve gotta get a life outside work.”
    – Now, don’t get me wrong – I still work hard and put in a lot of hours.
    – But I make time away from work for family, friends, and just plain fun.
    – And my life is a lot richer as a result.
    – If you’re just building your practice, you might be putting in those long hours at work.
    – But let me ask you this: What are you working for, and working toward?
    – Dr. Scott Watterson of Jackson, Michigan, is looking for more life outside the practice.
    – “I have 4 kids and a wife and we’re all busy, but sometimes being busy practicing dentistry is not what I want to be busy doing.
    – “I coach soccer, I am involved with my kids’ lives, I value my marriage, and we spend a lot of time together, but not enough.
    – “And so, at the end of the day, at the end of life, I want to be able to look back and say I spent the time I needed to with those that mattered most.”
    – I’m not here to tell you how to live your life.
    – But if you, like Dr. Watterson, want more out of life than working too much, I have a suggestion.
    – Realign your goals to achieve a better work-life balance.
    – That’s easy to say and not always that easy to do.
    – But it’s the place to start.
    – You’ve been in dentistry for a while now.
    – You know that the reality isn’t what you might have thought in dental school.
    – For the vast majority of dentists, dentistry is a grind.
    – It’s an endless procession of low case-value patients with little or no loyalty to your practice.
    – For some doctors, it’s running frantically from one operatory to another because of overbooking.
    – Whatever happened to actually enjoying what you do?
    – Isn’t that a goal worth striving for?
    – If you want a life outside of your practice, you need better patients.
    – Better patients are loyal to your practice and have the personal resources to pay for the care they want and need.
    – You’ll enjoy higher case value, which means you won’t have to schedule patients back-to-back to make as much money or more money.
    – Unless you’re in an economically challenged market, those better patients are 20 to 30 percent of your dental prospects.
    – You won’t attract them by advertising low price or insurance acceptance.
    – In fact, you’ll probably need to revise your marketing, online and offline.
    – Or, you can focus on doing the dentistry and retain a dedicated dental marketing firm with a proven record of helping dentists attract better patients.
    – That’s SmartBox.
    – We’ve helped hundreds of dentists transform their practices by getting them better patients.
    – Like Dr. Watterson, they’re in a position to work less and earn more.
    – They have the opportunity to enjoy life away from the practice.
    – Make dentistry everything it should be.
    – Visit smartboxdentalmarketing.com and reserve your free, no-obligation Practice Discovery Session.
    – We’ll discuss your goals, your capabilities, and your particular market.
    – After the session, you’ll receive your free Patient Attraction Roadmap as well.
    – Like I said, I’m not going to try to te[...]

  • Your Dental Practice Shouldn’t Feel Like a Ball and Chain

    Patient Attraction Episode 1162
Dentistry consistently ranks as one of the 2 best professions in the United States. Talk to enough dentists, though, and you’d have to wonder whether that’s true. All over the country, dentists are working too hard for too long for too little. It’s no wonder that a lot of them feel like the practice is a burden rather than the vehicle that will take them to their dreams. After the break, I’ll tell you how you can look forward to going to work again. Stay tuned.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – I’ve been talking with dentists almost every day for years.
    – It’s disheartening to hear how many of them have become disillusioned about their profession.
    – When they were in dental school, they never saw a future like what they’re experiencing.
    – Some never dreamed that they’d be running from operatory to operatory to help patients who want the absolute minimum of care.
    – Others never dreamed that they’d constantly be fighting to get enough patients to keep their chairs filled.
    – And still others never envisioned dentistry as a cold, hard, endless parade of boredom.
    – I firmly believe that dentistry doesn’t have to be unrewarding.
    – In fact, I’ve made it my life’s mission to help dentists succeed on their own terms.
    – What does “on their own terms” mean?
    – It means achieving market domination and multiple locations, if that’s what they want.
    – It means making a lot of money, or doing interesting work, or being able to give back.
    – It means time away from the practice to enjoy the rest of life.
    – It means the kind of retirement they’ve always dreamed about.
    – Or it could mean some combination of those – everybody’s different.
    – Done right, dentistry is the perfect profession for achieving success.
    – Less than 2 percent of dental practices fail within the first 5 years.
    – Compare that with the overall business failure rate of 50 percent in the first 5 years and 70 percent within 10 years.
    – So if your practice is feeling like a ball and chain, there’s something wrong with your marketing approach.
    – Let’s see what might be happening.
    – The first thing to look at is who you’re marketing to.
    – If you’re advertising low prices and insurance acceptance, you’re getting people without much discretionary income.
    – Those people need dental care, of course, but having too many of them in your new patient stream will take a toll on your bottom line.
    – And you’ll need to see a lot more of those patients to make any money.
    – That’s the dental treadmill, and it flat wears dentists out, physically and emotionally.
    – The second thing to look at is how you value your services.
    – Keep in mind that your practice provides a patient experience as well as dental treatment.
    – A filling is a filling, but how the patient feels when he or she is in your practice makes a difference.
    – Look, dentists today are assumed to be competent.
    – The difference between dental practices comes down to the entire patient experience, from first contact to appointment to follow-up.
    – Emphasize the patient experience in your marketing, as well as the benefits of choosing you to solve patients’ dental problems.
    – You’ll attract better patients instead of the one-and-dones and insurance-driven patients you’re getting now.
    – You’ll make more money and enjoy your work more.
    – I know that completely revamping your marketing is a big ask.
    – It’s time-consuming and finicky work, and a lot of dental practices won’t have the bandwidth to do it.
    – SmartBox will do it for you, just like we did for this dentist from California.
    – He said, “SmartBox will paint you in a light, which is favorable and which patients can relate t[...]

  • Can Dentists Work Just 3 Days a Week and THRIVE?
Having trouble watching this video? Click here.
    Patient Attraction Episode 1161
Let’s face it – dentistry takes a toll on your back and your neck. Hunching over the chair for many hours a day, 4 or 5 days a week, can make you feel old before your time. But did you ever wonder if there’s a better way to make a living as a dentist? Before you go on sacrificing your health for the sake of your practice, stay tuned. I’ll be back after the break to tell you how you can work just 3 days a week and thrive.
    – Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast.
    – I’m Colin Receveur, CEO of SmartBox.
    – I know thousands of dentists, and far too many of them are in pain.
    – Their back s hurt, their necks bother them, and those aches and pains don’t stop at the doors of their practices.
    – Chronic pain affects your entire life and the quality of your life.
    – And it can lead to you leaving the profession before you’re ready.
    – Frankly, dentistry is too good a profession to hurt this much.
    – But until and unless there’s some major breakthrough in dental ergonomics, you have to take care of you.
    – And self-care as a dentist begins with not spending so many hours in positions that hurt you.
    – Sounds like a pipe dream, right?
    – I don’t have a better dental chair to offer you.
    – What I do have is the proven path to working less while earning more.
    – So, you’re probably wondering how much less and how much more?
    – How does working 3 days a week while increasing your earnings by 350 percent sound?
    – To be fair, the case I just mentioned involved the doctor getting specialized training and an associate to handle the general dentistry side.
    – But that doctor spends all his time handling only cases he loves to do.
    – And he wakes up in the morning eager to get into the practice … and he’s in his 60s.
    – SmartBox works with hundreds of dentists on 3 continents to help them get better patients.
    – Better patients are people with the ability and willingness to pay more for the right dentist.
    – The lifetime value of better patients is orders of magnitude greater than patients you’re probably getting now.
    – Higher value means you can see fewer patients and still make as much as – or more than – you’re making now.
    – So, you have a couple of options if you want to quit working so long and so hard.
    – You can get specialty training – in implants or cosmetic dentistry, for instance – and hire an associate to do general dentistry.
    – Or you can attract better patients with higher case value and work fewer hours each week.
    – If you think that can’t happen, here’s the experience of Dr. Ron Receveur of New Albany, Indiana.
    – He said, “Actually, the number of visits to my website is down during the time that I’m collecting a lot more money.
    – “So we’ve extrapolated that information from more visits, less money to less visits, higher-quality patient, more collections. It’s working.”
    – Full disclosure: Ron is my dad, and I’m proud to say that SmartBox has played a role in his amazing success.
    – How about a dentist who isn’t related to me?
    – Here’s Dr. Travis Watson of Marietta, Georgia.
    – He said, “A consistent goal that we have is to continue to have the new patients come in that are high-quality …
    – “… who are interested in comprehensive dentistry, and really just want something better for themselves and aren’t just what we call single-tooth type situations.
    – “They’re more of the fine cases that we enjoy doing, so that’s always going to be a goal for us as we move forward with a company like SmartBox to help us with that.”
    – You should note that Dr. Watson is talking about getting more high-quality patients like the ones he’s getting already.
    – You can enjoy the kind of success that Dr. Receveur and Dr. Watson are experiencing.
    – It starts with a [...]
