Smuggler's Galaxy: A Star Wars Collecting Podcast

This week on the Smuggler’s Galaxy Podcast, our conversation with Jerry Hancock continues. Jerry has studied Sears for years and knows all about its history. He has a passion for Star Wars, too. As a result, he has a focus on Star Wars items that were once Sears exclusives. Jerry talks about what Sears had to offer, how one could purchase these pieces, and what figures were available in each playset. But before we jump into that, the trio review current vintage loose prices. In early 2021, we went through how much it would cost to buy each Star Wars figure on eBay. Now that we’re at the end of the year, we compare those prices to today. Did prices go up, down, or stay the same? Tune in to find out!

Jerry Hancock join the Glen and Jason this week to talk news around the galaxy. They start by reviewing the Fall Crawl, a one day, three collection tour in Georgia. From there, they discuss the rancor in the room. Jerry, being a vintage collector, shares his thoughts from outside the bubble. At the start of 2021, as the skyrocketing prices of Star Wars collectibles plateaued and ceased their outrageous climb, Glen and Jason took a snapshot of modern Vintage Collection and Black Series prices. Now that the year is almost over, it’s time to revisit those prices and see where they compare today in our current market.

They find an interesting trend in the Vintage Collection that might make collectors take a closer look at their pieces.  It’s a common challenge in the collecting community - price gouging. Most of us are tired of empty pegs at the store, and it’s frustrating to find those items at toys shows or Facebook groups for a 100 percent markup. It can lead to negative emotions when all we want is to be positive and love our hobby. This week on the Smuggler’s Galaxy podcast, Glen and Jason talk about scalpers and price shaming, the moral aspect of things, and wonder if this is an issue that will ever go away. In addition to the main topic, they cover the latest news, and, of course, complain about Hasbro.
