On the TechSmith Learning Center is a tutorial that shows how to send your captures to a free OCR tool (Optical Character Recognition) called MODI. Well, in that example I send a capture straight to the program. But, you can also have the capture open in Snagit before you send it on to another program. Here's how to set that all up.

The canvas is the area below your capture. And, with the little boxes around your capture you can extend the canvas area with a simple click and drag.

Profiles in Snagit give you a ton of flexibility over how you capture images with Snagit. It takes a little bit of practice to understand all the options and how to make them work together, but it is certainly worth the effort.
