Outrageous is not equivalent to remarkable. While outrageous behavior may be okay in small doses, as a strategy it just gets annoying. Remarkable is memorable but not over the top offensive. Let's look at some alternatives.

Living on the Edge. Seth Godin says the process for figuring our what the next purple cow is for your business involves identifying "the edge." You don't necessarily have to go there but you have to figure out where it is. The edge of crazy or dangerous. What's risky? Are you willing to do risky?

Who do you connect with? I ask because I don't think we can be remarkable to everyone. As a matter of fact I don't think we should even try to be remarkable to everyone. Controversial? Perhaps, but listen in and tell me what you think.

Stand out! Fitting in means you are invisible in the market place. Don't get me wrong, being a stand out is not easy. Why? Because we are afraid. Afraid someone won't like us. Afraid someone will say we are wrong, or we are cheating. And how do we know that what we are doing wioll cause us to stand out? We don't know, until we do it! Let's do it!

If your message is for everybody, your message is for nobody. You can't be everything for everybody. So why try. Spend some time in the $10,000/hour workspace and develop a message for your ideal client and then launch it. How far should you niche down? So far you are afraid no one will be there.
