My guest this week is someone I consider a comedy contemporary (even though she pointed out she is guest #34), the talented Fiona O’Brien. Born and raised in Ireland, Fiona had always had a leaning towards standup, spending her time not as a fan but more analyzing the what's and how's. She got her start by writing jokes for a comedian in Ireland, but it took a move to Canada, a failing marriage, and a New Year’s resolution for her to work up the nerve to start the Second City standup class as a mother of 3 at age 39. Fiona shares my gratitude for discovering standup at a later age, and we talk a lot about how appreciative we are just to do it. When I produced my first pro show at my boxing gym, it was a no-brainer to have Fiona on, and we share a very touching moment that happened to her on the show. Music by Devin Bateson.
