So Much More Than Cancer

Dr. Toni Delisi is a Dr. of Psychology who found herself becoming a caregiver for her husband of 30 years. Both she and her husband had very successful careers until a few years ago when they both decided to retire. Unfortunately, their dreams of traveling about the world, relaxing and just enjoying the “golden years” didn’t turn out to be so golden. Her husband of the years has dealt with 6 different forms of cancer. Most of them coming in the past 10 years. Dr. Delisi and I talk about the importance of caring for the caregivers and how important it is for the caregiver to know how to refresh themselves so they can continue their care without harming themselves. Toni and her husband have been dear friends of mine since 1977. They were both very instrumental in helping me during my time of need. I think you will glean a lot from this episode.

The Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) is a bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic event in the country. The PMC pioneered the $5 billion athletic fund raising industry, and donates 100% of every rider-raised dollar to adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA

It was my pleasure to spend time with the founder, Bill Starr and his lovely wife Meredith. Billy started the PMC 41 years ago after losing his mother and other family members to cancer. Listen and be amazed at how one person's dream, dedication and commitment has changed the lives of so many.

Dr. Bernie Siegel is a hoot! This episode was so much fun to do because Bernie is brilliantly funny and has so many wonderful stories of healing. In 1978, he originated ECaP, Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patients’ drawings, dreams, images and feelings. ECaP is based on “CAREfrontation,” a safe, loving therapeutic confrontation, which facilitates personal lifestyle changes, personal empowerment and healing of the individual’s life. The physical, spiritual and psychological benefits which followed led to his desire to make everyone aware of his or her healing potential. YOU ARE A MIRACLE!

It is a true miracle when a child is born. Somehow we all forget we were once just a wee little one, most likely, for our mother’s sake, weighing under ten pounds. In this episode Denise addresses the fact that no matter how old we are or how big we get we are still the same miracle and the power that created us has the power to heal us.
