Hey folks – Happy Green Week! Nope, not a new take on Earth Day…just the week when the grass greens up and the new leaves come out – quite possibly my favorite week of the year!
But that’s not my actual topic. This week in the Talky Bit we’ll be continuing our exploration of prayer, and as a significant part of that exploration we’ll be referencing the work of Hildegard of Bingen, the rather remarkable Benedictine abbess that Jane introduced us to last week. I’m fascinated by how often old ideas become new again, as the situation requires. Some of the most “progressive” ideas that are floating around these days can be easily located in the lives, observations and writings of those that have gone before; an idea we touched on two weeks ago when we talked about how we never really pray alone. It’s one of the ways we can be reminded that exploring what we believe, even pushing the boundaries of what is regarded as “acceptable”, is not only not categorically a problem; it’s a time-worn and honorable practice, necessary for the healthy evolution of belief. So exploring we shall go…
We’ll be meeting at Sam’s Place. The Kid’s Table will be up and running (literally, I suspect), and the fair trade coffee will be ready.
I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
