Lily Johannah Nicholson is an artist based on the Far South Coast of NSW, where she and her partner Jono are raising their two sons, Dusty and Skip, on a remote seaside property that is completely off grid and self sufficient. In this week's episode, Lily and I discuss her journey as an artist, a friend and a mother. Lily is inspiring for many many reasons, but one thing I walked away thinking after we had our conversation was just how brave she is. How she is so generous in speaking her truths and being present in the moment. We had this conversation I think only a few days before she gave birth to her second child, and I can't thank her enough for sharing her story with me.
Justyna Sroka is fiercely independent and driven in a way that I have rarely encountered in others. Whether its creating music videos for her husbands band, or mastering lighting design, nothing is ever is too much for this woman. On this episode, we discuss her journey, from how she first immigrated to the US from Poland at 19, knowing little to no English. How she put herself through college while working as a Manager for one of New York City’s most beloved neighborhood restaurants. We discuss how she met her husband Albert Hammond Jr. from the Strokes, the importance of working hard at everything you do and how staying curious always leads to new adventures.
George Potter is a force to be reckoned with. She is the lead singer in the Byron Bay alt-rock band Moreton, which just released their new hit, “Circles”. Their second EP, The Dog Years, which will releasing in July, was produced by Matthew Neighbour (Matt Corby, Jen Cloher) and Alex Henriksson. Georgia also is the co-creator of Braer, the florist design company which started as a studio, workspace in Mullumbimby and now is a concept space in Bangalow that focus on exploring the true meaning of Slow Flowers here in Australia.
On this episode, we discuss how her upbringing in remote Northern Queensland and Bribie Island imparted on her an intuitive love and desire to work with nature, exploring it both as a florist, and as a singer songwriter. We discuss how sadness elevated is sadness alleviated, and being vulnerable and talking about our mental health with those who are nearest and dearest can sometimes be the most difficult, but ultimately leads to healing and growth.
Yasmine Ganley is an independent publisher, curator, and brand consultant based in New Zealand. She is ever in pursuit of the exploration and exchange of ideas, and attracts and inspires a circle of women from around the globe who contribute to her various t projects, including her online platform ANYONEGIRL.COM, the aesthetic journal that looks at women’s fashion, music and contemporary art with a perspective that is honest and true, as well as the printed journal WAIST, now in its third edition. I was honored to speak to her about how returning to her hometown in New Zealand has informed her work. The magic of raising her daughter in the very landscape of her own childhood, how dance and movement lead her to trust her instincts, and how intuition is powerful tool that leads us to our truth.
