On this week's episode, Nick is joined by music-lover and host of 'Mellow Gold', Ashton. They dive in deep to discuss what is largely considered the greatest film of all time: Citizen Kane. Released in 1941, Citizen Kane is credited for influencing modern cinema, including creative geniuses like Stanley Kubrick, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese. It was the first film to really attempt deep focus, symbolic use of shadows, creative camera angles, non-linear narrative— the list could go on. To tackle this movie, Ashton and Nick discuss these "first time" uses and the idea of whether first is best, the history of how film developed over the 20th century, its comparison to theatre, as well as modern cinema, the clichés of film today, and of course... the meaning behind "rosebud." This episode was a blast and easily could have been another hour, so we are so happy you can listen in.
