JOHN LEON STANEK III may sound like a familiar name... that's because it's my Dad! It was a blast having my father on the show as we discuss everything from hilarious college stories to horrific paranormal childhood encounters. We also talk about how our mutual love of movies has been passed down through the generations and how this bond over film has resulted in a youtube show called III & IV's Top V's, which you can binge watch now at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuH5pjufoKYCkKxqXVqhtXA
MARC MAHAN is more than just your average park ranger / environmental educator. He is a seeker, a life-long learner, a perfectionist, a story teller, a film maker, an adventurer, and he sings a mean Bee Gees tune at karaoke night. We talk in depth about his time serving with the Peace Corps in Malawi, Africa, other adventures as well as one certain misadventure together in England & Scotland back in 2000. We also reminisce on the good times making short films together and how our friendship has continued over 25 years, despite Marc's refusal to listen to pre-album singles by their favorite music artists. Truly one in a million, Marc is one fascinating guy that I have the pleasure of calling a best friend.
JAYKE WATSON is many things: a writer, a musician, a philosopher, a political activist, a world traveller... just to name a few. More than that, he is one of my best friends and it was a real treat to catch up with him on this episode where, as usual, we talk about everything from music & movies to politics & religion and everything in between. I always walk away from a Jayke conversation feeling smarter and I think you will too. Listening to modern day theologians will do that.
DYLAN CASE WHITE is a singer/songwriter with soul. Whether he is sharing his art via music, photography, or his profoundly deep lyricism, Dylan has a love for God that shines through in every aspect of his life. In this episode we discuss how he came to know Jesus Christ & how that has significantly transformed his life, how his love of nature goes hand in hand with his spiritual walk, and how music may have literally saved his life. Be sure to check out his latest single, Loose Grip, as well as his 2018 debut LP, Spoken World.
ALLEN EPLEY is an alt-rock legend with not one, but two amazing bands: Shiner and The Life and Times. Adding a third to the equation, Birdhands, is a welcome surprise but also no surprise at all when you consider this man's disciplined work ethic. We talk about all of these these musical projects as well as his side gigs ranging from teaching to bartending to being an integral part of the Blue Man Group band in Chicago for the past 10 years. On top of all that, Mr. Epley also finds the time to host a successful podcast of his own, Third Gear Scratch, which if you are involved in music or art in any form, you absolutely must check out. He truly peels back the curtain on the music industry and gives an honest glance on why artists do what they do. I hope to have done some justice to Allen and his own story which hits on childhood, fatherhood, and the brotherhood that fuels his passion to keep making music with friends.
ANITA STRATTON-COVEL is known by many as a bright shining light. If she isn't moving you to tears with her marvelous singing voice, she's making you cry laughing on or off the theater stage. She also has a strong testimony of coming to the Lord and later overcoming cancer by God's grace. Through all the hardships in her life, she has always been singing, laughing, & encouraging others through her faith. I can personally attest to all of this because well... she's my Mom! This was such a fun interview in which we talk about all of the above as well as the life-changing concert experience we had seeing Stevie Wonder together in 2014. You can be the judge, and I may be a bit biased, but I think I have the coolest Mom ever.
DEWANTORO RATRI being on my show is a true blessing. Not only is he my first international guest (all the way from Indonesia), but he was the inspiration behind me starting this very podcast. It will be easy to see why as Dewan's positive attitude is always infectious. In this episode, we discuss how he learned English, what brought him to the United States to further his career as a teacher and translator, and what music he likes to play the drums to... just to name a few topics. Be sure to check out his podcast, Kurasi Karsa streaming now on spotify!
DONOVAN COX is a producer, musician, singer/songwriter, and good friend who worked with me on several musical projects back in the late 2000's and early 2010's. We reminisce on the good old days of creating together, meeting some of our mutual heroes, and the current state of pop music. A 10 year anniversary EP of our band God's Green Earth is coming out on 01.11.21 by the way!
DOM MADURI is yet another man of many talents: singer/songwriter of the indie rock band Cool Cool Cool, producer/engineer at Toast and Jam studio, pasta connoisseur... the list goes on and on. We talk about a wide range of topics including his latest single Cheap Wine, near death experiences, and convincing Shaquille O'Neal to slow down.
DAN DIXON is a jack of all trades in the music industry: singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, the list goes on and on. We talk about the new PLS PLS record, his other new project NRCSSST as well as his Dropsonic days where he shares some classic tour stories of meeting the likes of Bono, Chuck D, and Robby Krieger of The Doors!
