One year has passed since I saw Anna Kendrick's directorial debut, Woman of the Hour at the Toronto Film Festival in 2024. I'm still troubled by it. The movie which Ian McDonald wrote is based on the true events surrounding Rodney Alcala's 1978 appearance on The Love Game as a serial rapist and murderer. As Sheryl, a a budding actress and the competitor who paired with him on that fatal day, Rose not only delivers a consistently witty and clever performance, but she shows as well as a director a deep interest in the power of the gaze both human and cinematic. Alcala tells all of his victims mostly disadvantaged women that they are lovely. He works as a photographer. Now watch the movie on Soap2day. 

After The Notebook, the emotional romantic drama surged in popularity, but it was soon overshadowed by countless adaptations of other Nicholas Sparks novels and their imitators. Watching John Crowley’s gripping We Live in Time, which premiered tonight at the Toronto International Film Festival, I couldn’t help but notice how deeply it draws from centuries of tragic love stories. Yet, it still felt fresh something we haven't experienced in the post-COVID era, especially not with performances of this caliber. The two films that premiered tonight at one of Toronto’s grandest theaters shared a deep, heartfelt seriousness. These are the kinds of stories where the audience knows they’re being manipulated, yet willingly follows along, in an era where modern filmmaking has grown deeply cynical. The splatter show that we all expected and, for some of us, longed for, is just what Terrifier 3 is. Damien Leone, who directed "Terrifier" 2016 and Terrifier 2 2022 from his script, is back, this time without any producer credits. Additionally, if the credits are to be believed, he appears to have given all mask, makeup, and visual effects work to others for the second sequel.
