In our 2nd episode of season 5, we host Florence Namaganda, the Founder of Mukisa Foundation. This episode highlights the organization's work in Uganda, addressing the deep-rooted stigma and negative beliefs surrounding disability. The foundation, named "Mukisa" (meaning "blessing" in Luganda), seeks to transform the narrative that children with disabilities are cursed or a burden. These harmful beliefs lead to social exclusion, shame, and neglect. The founder's journey began during her physiotherapy training, where she was inspired to support children with disabilities after witnessing the challenges they and their families face.
The foundation now serves over 6,000 children across four locations, offering comprehensive support. Services include health care (medical care, surgeries, assistive devices), nutritional support, education (inclusive schools and vocational training), and family empowerment (psychosocial support and community building).
