Social media is an illusion at times. We tend to forget that people only show you what they want you to see on it. People usually show the highlights of their life and the perfect/idealistic version of themselves on Instagram. We then subconsciously compare ourselves to their looks, lifestyles, and accomplishments. Although you may be the same age as them, they seem more accomplished and put together than you, making you feel even more insecure about yourself. And then I remember apps like instagram were created to help capitalism profit off of self hatred by creating certain beauty standards and expectations in general. Making people feel ugly and/ or unaccomplished if they don't meet them, instead of loving their own unique beauty and self. We're programmed to believe that we must change those unique parts of ourselves to fit those standards. In the end we seem to be striving for one type of beauty and ideal person which is boring. We aren't meant to all look and act the same. So glad i deleted my ig account in August.
