She surveyed more than 200 high-performing social entrepreneurs and interviewed dozens of founders. Social Startup Success shares her findings for the legions of entrepreneurs working for social good, revealing how the best organizations get over the revenue hump. How do social ventures scale to over $2 million, Janus' clear benchmark for a social enterprise's sustainability? Janus, tapping in to strong connections to the Silicon Valley world where many of these ventures are started or and/or funded, reveals insights from key figures such as DonorsChoose founder Charles Best, charity:water's Scott Harrison, Reshma Saujani of Girls Who Code, and many others. Social Startup Success will be social entrepreneurship's essential playbook - the first definitive guide to solving the problem of scale.

Important tools for change
Those who are called to make a difference in the world, to improve the human condition no matter how targeted the benefit, may not have the business, management or financial skills to create sustainable change and fund their mission in the long term. Some nascent organizations, formed from the political and social impetus of recent events, may be just now looking around figuring out how to manage for the long haul. This is a book for them. I wish the tools identified in this book had been known to many of us in the days just after January 20, 2017. Hoping this book can help us all be the change we wish to see.
The "Rough Guide" for Social Startups
Kathleen's survey of social startups provides one of the most comprehensive overviews of the social landscape I have ever read. It's such a nice way to learn more about how the best got that way. Eye-opening ways to learn more about how to start something and succeed! My favorite part is her line that as much as private business can teach social startups, there's much the private sector can learn from them too!
Great, easy to read guide to starting your own non-profit. Will become the "bible" in the field.
finally -- real business literature for non-profits! Janus has written the perfect guide for startup non-profit organizations, and she illustrates her important and relevant suggestions for how to get funding, scale, and measure your impact with thoughtful and at times hilarious stories.
If you are starting or growing your own organization, this is a must read!
More Than Profit
Janus is an incisive and powerful writer and this book is much needed. You walk around the airport and you see a million books about making more profit. What's been missing is this: a book that helps organizations focused on creating something more than profit. It's immensely timely.
Great find!
Very informative collection of knowledge from prestige sources in the social entrepreneurship community.
I think you could search every library in the world and not find a better repository of strategies from top names than KK Janus has assembled here.
