When a Sociologist embarks on a mission to find an escape from the "iron cage" of modern society, he stumbles onto a treasure trove of strikingly current solutions to today's problems in the ancient and indigenous wisdom of Jewish Mysticism.
Expanding on Sociologist Max Weber's famous analogy of the "iron cage" that imprisons and "petrifies" the soul of modern humanity, we begin to explore what the alternative. What can the "Hasidic Ethos" teach us?
"The Lubavitcher Rebbe" - the 7th in a dynastic line of Jewish Mystical sages - comes to America and sets up shop in Crown Heights, NY. He begins to attract a crowd and a following. What was his message?
It's getting deep now. What does the social fabric of lived Hasidism look like and what do we mean by the "divinization" of the cosmos? Are we living in a random system where G-d "plays dice with the universe" or rather a benevolent matrix of some kind?
What should be our main focus in life? "Us" or "Them?" Jewish Mysticism posits a radical concept: through the technique of "reciprocity" that question itself becomes a false dichotomy. I.e. by serving oneself the community is edified and vice versa.
What would Education look like if it encompassed the "whole person"; not just the impartation of knowledge but considerations of spirituality, ethics, and purpose? Could Education hold the "keys to the kingdom" not just for escaping from the virtual iron cage but the real one?
A conclusory episode in which we recapitulate and coalesce the various "bricks in the wall" that make up a potential new paradigm, as well as forecasting the implications of that new paradigm for society as a whole.
