Would you rather only be able to listen to one song of your choice for the rest of your life or only ever be able to listen to each song once?

Getting Started:

* Read 1 John 4:7-10

* What stands out to you in these verses?

* Read 1 John 4:19-20.

* What do you think of the connection between loving God and loving a fellow believer?

Application Questions:

* Would you describe your experience of church (Society as well as any others you've been part of) as loving?

* How well do you get along with other people within the church (locally as well as those outside of Society)?

* How do you address issues that may cause division between you and others within the church?

* Is there anything you can do to help better show love to others within the church?

* What are ways that you can bring about justice on a local / national / global level?

* Is it generally easier or harder to extend mercy to others?

* Is there anyone you need to extend mercy to?

Getting Started:

* Read 1 Timothy 5:1-8.

* How would you describe your relationships between you and the different members of your family?

* Read Ephesians 5:21-33.

* What do you think about comparing the relationship between Jesus and the church with the relationship between spouses? How does your relationship with your spouse / significant other compare to that? If single, how do you imagine that relationship would compare?

Application Questions:

* Where would you put yourself on the discipleship map?

* If love is centered in self care, what are some practices you are either currently doing or could do to help? (look to the opposite quadrant, like personal good works -> communal transformation, for ideas)

* Can you think of something you put a lot of time, effort or money into that is no longer part of your day-to-day life?

* Have you ever considered that love could look like refraining from something for the betterment of someone else?

- can you share and example where you have seen or experienced this?

- do you think our culture values this expression of love?

Application Questions:

* What has been a barrier in the past that has hindered you from exploring or growing in your faith in Jesus?

* How could we get rid of barriers that close people off from exploring faith in Jesus in the life of the church?

* What ways can we be excellent to each other as a community group, as a church, as a friend, etc.?

* How important has consistently meeting with others to talk about life and faith been to you?

* Read Mark 12:30-31 and consider it alongside the quote from David Augsburger - "Being listened to is so close to being loved that most people cannot tell the difference."

* Is it generally easier or more difficult to listen to those who you may or may not disagree with?

* What are some ways you can practice loving your neighbor?
