On this episode of the podcast we have the honor of speaking with Death: Bobby Hackney Sr., Dannis Hackney and Bobbie Duncan about their story and the music that inspired them and their late brother David Hackney who passed away in 2000.Before Bad Brains, the Sex Pistols or the Ramones, three teenage brothers formed a band and began playing music in a spare bedroom of their Detroit home. David, Bobby, and Dannis Hackney recorded demos, played a few gigs, and pressed a single on their own label, Triangle Records. Clive Davis even expressed interest in the group at one point and offered them a contract… if they changed their name. The brothers decided to turn down the offer.Even though Death disbanded, the legend of the group grew in the age of the internet as copies of the single they self-released grew in popularity in the musical underground with record collectors and bloggers, reaching a new generation of music fans open to the sounds of Death.The documentary A Band Called Death directed by Jeff Howlett and Mark Corvino is bringing the Hackney's story to a wider audience in theaters Friday, June 28th.A BAND CALLED DEATH is available on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, VOD and other outlets for viewing now.
