This week we tackle the Emo Revival. Included in this episode is a previously unheard in studio performance by Into It. Over It. from the old Sock Monkey Sound studio recorded back in 2010 by Mark Gustafson. "The "emo revival" is a 2010s development in the emo genre in which bands have taken inspiration from the sounds and aesthetics of emo from the 1990s and early 2000s. A largely underground movement, bands that have been characterized under this genre are The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Pianos Become the Teeth, Empire! This week we tackle Alternative Country music and learn how to pronounce "TUPELO". "Alternative country (sometimes alt-country, insurgent country, or Americana) is a loosely defined subgenre of country music, which includes acts that differ significantly in style from mainstream or pop country music. It has been used to describe country music bands and artists that have incorporated influences ranging from roots rock, bluegrass, rockabilly, honky-tonk, alternative rock, folk rock, and sometimes punk rock." - Wikipedia

If you grew up in the 90's you definitely remember this week's genre - Swing Revival!!! Damion Davis from Mana Kintorso is back with us to disect this unusual blip during an interesting musical era during the era of grunge, boy bands, and Creed. "Swing Revival was a late 1990s period of renewed popular interest in swing and jump blues music and dance from the 1930s and 1940s as exemplified by Louis Prima, often mixed with a more contemporary rock, rockabilly or ska sound, known also as neo-swing or retro swing." - Wikipedia

This week we dive into Jazz Fusion with our special guest Damion Davis of Mana Kintorso (manakintorso.com). Maybe we learn a little, maybe we teach a little something new. "Jazz fusion (also known as jazz-rock)[1] is a musical genre that developed in the late 1960s when musicians combined aspects of jazz harmony and improvisation with styles such as funk, rock, rhythm and blues, and Latin jazz. During this time many jazz musicians began experimenting with electric instruments and amplified sound for the first time, as well as electronic effects and synthesisers. Many of the developments during the late 1960s and early 1970s have since become established elements of jazz fusion musical practice." - Wikipedia

We take a detour down a dark musical road on this weeks episode as we explore GRINDCORE. From Wikipedia: "Grindcore is an extreme genre of music that originated in the early to mid-1980s. It draws inspiration from some of the most abrasive-sounding genres – including hardcore punk, thrash metal, crust punk, industrial and noise rock. Grindcore is characterized by a noise-filled sound that uses heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars, grinding overdriven bass, high speed tempo, blast beats, and vocals which consist of growls and high-pitched shrieks." Joseph Reina, Jesse Carmona and Phil Goudreau of The Braves join us in studio for this week's episode. Anti-Folk is the genre we contemplate this week Sock Monkey Sound. You might be asking yourself "What the folk is Anti-Folk?", well don't be upset because most of us were too. Where does Folk end and Anti-Folk begin? Why do we even need to classify something like this? We definitely have questions but once again answers may elude us while picking apart Anti-Folk.

On this weeks episode we dive headfirst into the world of knights, dragons, wizard and the arcane with Progressive, or as most refer to this enigmatic genre, Prog Rock. Some of the choices are spot on, others are up for debate as we discuss the merits of this esoteric musical form that was birthed in the psychedelic genre and mutated into it's gloriously cryptic beauty; as well as a hint of what the future may hold for the noble Prog Rock.
