This might be one of the most important episodes I have ever made and it's a topic that every practitioner struggles with. A major component of the treatment process is effective communication and education for the client of what they need to do to help assure a good outcome.

Too many clients live in a fantasy world where they get injured doing stupid shit to their bodies, only to go right back to doing the same dumb shit. How can anyone expect something to change if they are unwilling to change their activities and lifestyle?

This leads to a lot of frustration on the part of the practitioner and not getting the client a resolution for their injury, all because we are afraid to tell the client exactly what they need to hear, but instead avoid that conversation altogether.

I was inspired to make this episode from an issue I had with a patient the other day and realized that we all put up with too much nonsense from some real pain-in-the-ass clients.

I have gotten much better over the years at recognizing these problem clients early in the process, but every once in a while one sneaks through and can really ruin your whole day!

This was an important episode for me to make and it came out of motivation for letting my own health and wellness go down the drain the past few weeks.

I was riding high doing the 75 Hard Challenge, feeling awesome both physically and mentally, then life decided to kick my ass. This almost negated all my progress on 75 hard and I found myself completely neglecting my health and well-being.

Five years ago today I lost my dad Fred to a pain-pill overdose at the age of 58. It was absolutely the worst day of my life, but nothing compared to the horrors my dad went through.

That day, and the years leading up to it completely transformed my views of the medical model and where conservative care was failing people every day.

I don't have a day pass where I don't think about what happened to my dad, how much he suffered, and how his life and dignity were stripped from him by the nightmare system that is our current medical model.

I wanted to share a clip from a video I made about his last day and help to give more context about why I am so damn passionate about getting quality soft tissue care to people early in the treatment process, so they don't have to become another tragedy like my dad.

I have been outspoken for years now on the extreme importance of soft tissue-based treatments being the key to getting a solution for an injury. I have shared my own experiences and limitations of other conservative care treatments, especially PT and Chiropractic. 

An issue I have seen over my 10 plus years in practice is when the client wants to do what I call, "kitchen sink treatments." Basically do every treatment out there in hopes that all of it stacked together will fix the problem for good.

I am in the process of publishing an article on why massage therapists are the key to solving the pain pill epidemic and part of my article was pointing out the nonsense in the profession that got the profession to be falsely labeled as "non-essential."

I had forgotten that I made this episode last year and went back and listened to it again.
