In our highly digitized experiences within the Information Age, these pastoral images are easily ignored and undervalued. Far from being sentimentalism or confusing Christianese, these two images make up the best news we could ever hope to hear.

Every one of us has experienced (or soon will experience) storms in our life…a relationship that seemed so promising implodes, plans for a new job never materialize, hopes for a beloved child crash in the wake of unexpected news. From a fishing boat in the middle of the Sea of Galilee, Jesus demonstrated that his amazing love is paired with infinite power. The lesson for his disciples then (as well as for his disciples now) is that when we find ourselves in the midst of an unexpected storm, we are to find our shelter in him.
