  • Pastor Eddie Anderson & Kait Ziegler On Poor People's Campaign Tour
    Today on Sojourner Truth:
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) just wrapped up its annual conference. Speakers included Mike Pence, Elliott Abrams, Ted Cruz and Nancy Pelosi. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left early due to a crisis of rocket fire between Israel and the Palestinian territory of Gaza, but he addressed the conference via Skype. In his address, he joined Republicans in criticizing Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, claiming that criticism of Israel is anti-semitic. Netanyahu is up for re-election (it's a very contentious election) and Donald Trump gave him a boost earlier this month when he announced that the United States will recognize the Golan Heights as Israeli territory, a move that is illegal according to international law. Phyllis Bennis, an expert on the region, joins us.
An update on Grechario Mack. A 30-year-old Black man killed by police in a popular mall within Los Angeles' Black community. This, amid a spate of killings of Black men across the nation by police. There's little, if any, accountability. For our Campaigners for Black Lives series, Paula Minor is our guest. She is active with Black Lives Matter Los Angeles.
And the Poor People's Campaign, a national call for moral revival, is kicking off a nationwide national emergency truth and poverty tour. Our guests are Pastor Eddie Anderson and Kait Ziegler.
    Finally, our weekly Earth Minute.

  • Alan Minsky On Global Progressive Politics
    Today on Sojourner Truth:
We take a look at South of the Border, what has shifted in Mexico since the election of center-left President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, known as AMLO; the impact of the Trump of South of the Border, Jair Bolsonaro; the ongoing U.S. backed attempts at regime change in Venezuela, while the Trump administration has the broader goal of discrediting socialism, useful for him in the 2020 elections as a tactic against Bernie Sanders and what some fear others hope for a swing to the left by Democrats. Our guest is Mexico-based journalist Laura Carlsen.
An analysis of where politics are " left, center and right " in the U.S. and in Europe. From the rise of democratic socialists such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, to the Labour Party in the U.K. being the largest left party in Europe; to the upcoming E.U. elections and the shift to the right in Europe. And, of course, fallout from the Mueller report, including disappointment from those who still believe in the system. We speak to Alan Minsky, Executive Director of Progressive Democrats and a senior producer at KPFK.
For our weekly Earth Watch, the growing environmental movement in Europe and the U.S. and now a German-based movement with success in disrupting mining activity is sharing strategy and tactics with the U.S. movement. Our guest is Dorothee Haeussermann, a Germany-based climate activist.

  • Sojourner Truth Radio: March 26, 2019 - Mosque Attack, Yellow Vests, Mueller Report
    Today on Sojourner Truth:
The Mueller report is in and immediately controversy broke out about the report's findings. While Mueller said there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, on the question of obstruction of justice, he left the door open for interpretation. That move is being seen as Mueller punting that call to the Department of Justice or even to Congress. But Barr, Trump's new Attorney General who had been critical of the Mueller investigation -- including saying that a sitting president cannot be prosecuted -- led his own interpretation to the Mueller report. Barr concluded that there was no obstruction. Democrats are saying "not so fast" and are demanding to see the report. Meanwhile, in the Senate, Republicans have voted down releasing the Mueller report to the public. Our guest is author and law professor Marjorie Cohn.
And, an arsonist set a mosque on fire in Escondido, California, leaving behind graffiti that referenced the mosque terrorist attack in New Zealand that left 50 people dead. The arson attack in California is being investigated as a hate crime. Our guest is Marwa Rifahie, the Civil Rights Managing Attorney with the CAIR-LA Office.
Also, an update on the Yellow Vests movement that has swept France for months now. Despite French President Emmanuel Macron making a move to use military and anti-terrorist forces to reign in protesters, this past weekend, approximately 40,000 protesters took to the streets. And a 73-year-old female protester suffered from a skull fracture. Macron responded to her injury by saying he hopes her injury "will bring her wisdom." Our guest is Benoit Martin, a member of Payday, a network of men working with the Global Women's Strike.

  • Sojourner Truth Radio: March 22, 2019 - New Zealand, Golan Heights, Venezuela
Today on Sojourner Truth, our weekly roundtable:
The government of New Zealand's reaction to the white nationalist terror attack that left 50 dead, 29 still hospitalized, 8 of whom are in critical condition. This, in the context of the rise of white nationalism internationally and Donald Trump's reaction to it.
Also, Trump in violation of international law and decades of U.S. policy announced via Twitter that the United States will recognize the Golan Heights as Israeli territory. The Golan Heights was taken from Syria and annexed by Israel, but the United Nations declared it illegal. What are the wider implications? This, as Congress moves to condemn the Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS) movement in the U.S., which is a peaceful protest against Israeli policies. And as freshman Democratic women shake things up in Congress, Democrats are split on whether criticism of Israeli policies against Palestinians should be categorized as anti-semitic.
And on Friday, March 22, Trump met with Caribbean nations leaning to support the U.S.-backed attempted coup in Venezuela. Trump is hoping to divide and rule, as the majority of Caribbean nations have stood against Trump's push in Venezuela. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is stepping up its efforts to economically and otherwise squeeze Venezuela.
Our panelists are Jackie Goldberg, Laura Carlsen and Dr. Gerald Horne.
