On this International Womens Day, where women in over 50 countries are participating in an International Womens Strike we honor women around the world. Today women in Spain have gone out on a traditional strike, they met at midnight last night kicking off their 24-hour strike. They have asked all women not to do domestic work and to stay off waged work. Women in London are protesting outside Parliament against the unjust taking of children from their mothers because the mothers are poor and the Guardian of the UK has published an article by Selma James explaining the roots of the IWS.

From South Korea to Ireland, to Argentina, to Spain to Nigeria to cities across the US women are making their voices, their demands today in strikes and protests large and small. Women say they want a caring society and that they represent a Feminism of the 99%.

Today we are joined by three women icons: Dolores Huerta, Barbara Smith and Jackie Goldberg.

On January 30, 2018, Donald Trump gave his first State of the Union address. It was lumbering in presentation and full of exaggerations. The speech was given after a year of Trump's dismantling rights people had fought for and won in the areas of civil liberties, health care, immigrant justice, environmental protections and more. Trump's speech also came after a year of making clear where he stands in the United States' racial divide, cemented further by his comments after white supremacists marched in Charlottesville, Virginia; his "s***hole" comments about Africa; his putdown of Haitians "There could be a long list.

Although some mainstream media outlets gave Trump high marks for his State of the Union address, Democrats and others spoke out against Trump, charting a path of resistance against his administration for 2018.
